Back in the Winner’s Circle at the Northeast Montana
Fair’s Milk River MotorSports Demolition Derby held
this past Friday night was Glasgow’s own Chris Moore.
And if you take a look at his 1972 Cadillac it was no
easy feat as he had to do it on threethree as the 008
pit crew had to chain up the rear axle during heats.
Chris and his crew edged out Willy Lauckner in the
Main Big Build for the championship. Chris also won
the Northeast Montana Fair title in 2015. The Chain
Build was won by Preston Baldry of Scobey with his

1977 Oldsmobile, and winning the Herbie Derbie was
Glasgow’s Fred “Derf” Potter with his 1991 Dodge
Sprint. There were a total of nine cars in the Main Big
Build; five cars in the Chain Build; and eight cars in the
Herbie Derby, which is gaining in popularity as these
little buggers (cars, that is) can really zip around, and
when you’ve got eight of them out on the track with a
smash-em-up showdown until just one driver is still
going, that is a whole lot of action. Also, those big
boats are getting harder and harder to find.
Theo and Alyce Beck Foundation Trust awards scholarships
The Theo and Alyce Beck Foundation Trust has
announced its 2019 scholarship recipients. There were a

Liebelt, in her final year at North Dakota State
University, majoring in Nursing.
15. Deann Rasmusan, daughter of Terry and Mandy
Rasmusan, in her sophomore year at Minot State
University, majoring in Communication Disorders.
16. Alexa Shipp, daughter of Cam and Kim Shipp, in
her final year at Montana State University-Billings,
majoring in Elementary Education.
17. Kendra Vaughn, daughter of Kendall and Tracie
Vaughn, in her final year at Montana State University-
Billings, majoring in Biology.
The Theo and Alyce Beck Foundation Trust was set up to
create income for two purposes. 1. To benefit people who would
better themselves through higher education. These scholarships
are for Valley County Graduates who are past their first year of
education. 2. To help fund projects to promote better living in
Valley County through non-profit organizations.
Theo and Alyce Beck were Northeast Montana people
who cared about their communities they lived in, whether it was
Baylor where their lives began, Opheim where they farmed, or
Glasgow where Alyce spent her retired year after Theo passed
away.
Alyce was active in 4-H and Homemakers Club as well as
entering plants, sewing projects and homemade baked goods in
the Northeast Montana Fair.
This is the tenth year that the Theo and Alyce Beck
Foundation Trust has awarded scholarships.

This was the final hit of the evening during the 2019
Northeast Montana Fair’s MIlk River MotorSports
Demolition Derby. Chris Moore’s 008 Caddy — minus
the rear left wheel — put the kabosh to Willy Lauckner’s
Buick. Just by looking, it is totally amazing how much
damage these cars can go through and still be going.
But knowing Willy, he’ll have that Buick all straightened
out and going again next year... or not.
