I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
identify the subject and the verb in the given sentences,
formulate the rules on subject verb agreement based on the given sentences; and
construct sentences using the rules on subject verb agreement.
III. PROCEDURE
A. Preliminary Activities

Checking of Attendance
B. Motivating Activity
The teacher posts four (4) pictures on the board. Then, the students break into four (4) groups. Afterwards, the
following tasks are assigned to them:
1. Each group will observe the picture.
2. Each group will choose one representative to tell/say something about the picture.
C. Processing Activity
The teacher reveals that the students are actually making a sentence out of their observation in the picture. Then, the
students are asked the following questions:
1. Who can still remember what a sentence is?
2. Based on the sentences that you have given, what is a sentence?
D. Input
The teacher further discusses what a sentence is and what composes a sentence.
Concept: SENTENCE- A sentence is a group of words which expresses a complete thought.
In simple terms, a sentence is a set of words that contain:
1. a subject (what the sentence is about, the topic of the sentence)
2. a predicate (what is said about the subject)
Rules on Subject-Verb Agreement refers to from the word itself, the agreement between a Subject and a Verb. In short,
there are rules to follow on what would be the appropriate verb to be used in a given sentence.
The teacher uses the example given during the motivating activity
Verb- singular
Example: The baby is crying.
subject sing.
To introduce rule No. 1, the teacher uses the sentences given during the motivating activity.
Example:
The girl is singing.
They are playing
From the given examples, help the students formulate the rule no. 1.
Rule No. 1
Singular subject takes singular verb, and plural subject takes plural verb.
Then, the students are asked to give more examples by letting them construct their own sentences.
The students formulate rule No. 2 based on the given sentences. Afterwards, the students are asked to give more
examples by letting them construct their own sentences.
Rule No. 2
When the subject consists of two or more nouns joined by or, either-or, and neither-nor, the verb ordinarily agrees
with the noun nearer the verb.
The students formulate rule No. 3 then, they will be asked to construct sentences on this rule.
Rule No. 3
All titles of the books, songs, movies, poems, articles, or any title is considered singular and takes the singular form
of the verb.
The students formulate rule No. 4 based on the given sentences. Afterwards, the students are asked to give more
examples by letting them construct their own sentences.
Rule No. 4
When this and that is the subject the third person singular form of the verb is used; when these and those is the
subject, the third person plural form of the verb is used.
F. Values Integration
The teacher integrates values in the lesson by asking direct questions to instill the values of obeying and following the
rules.
Sample questions:
1. What is the importance of rules and regulation in our society?
2. How about in language, are these rules on subject-verb agreement important? Why?
3. What will happen if there will be no rules and regulation in our school or community?
4. What will happen if there will be no rules on subject-verb agreement?
5. What will you do as a youth with regard to the rules and regulation?
IV. EVALUATION
The teacher distributes a copy of the short quiz.
Direction: Choose the correct form of the verb enclosed in the parentheses in the following sentences. Encircle your
answer. (5 minutes)
1. Neither the sultan nor the sultana (accept, accepts) the reward.
2. Professional athletes usually (train, trains) about two to three hours a day.
3. Either Mildred or her cousins (love, loves) to attend rock concerts.
4. Neither his shoes nor my shirt (fit, fits) Daniel
5. Mrs. Paras (has, have) left.
6. The solution to our problems (lie, lies) in your hands.
7. The Arabian nights (has, have) been translated to different languages.
8. Those (is, are) my favorite flowers.

10. Tales of Long Ago (is,are) a reading for children.
V. ASSIGNMENT
Write a one paragraph (5-10 sentences) commentary about some recent issues or news this year 2014. Underline the
subjects and the verbs used. Write it on a ½ Cross Wise.
