THE BEST SOLUTION

SPIRULINA
What is Spirulina?

A simple, one-celled form of (blue green) algae that thrives in warm,

fresh-water bodies.

A ”Super food”!

It contains the most remarkable concentration and combination of

nutrients known in any food, plant, grain or herb.

65 - 70 % protein

Only requires sunlight and water to grow – i.e.

Inexpensiv to produce in tropical climates
FIVE KEY ASSETS

It is cheap

It is effective

Relatively simple process – low investment cost

Provides income

Local business
The Braveheart Project
Generate awareness about Spirulina
among local people and educate them how
to produce it.

Provide global market possibilities of

Spirulina to improve job opportunities in the
villages involved in the project.
HOW?

”We believe in helping people to help themselves”

Participation – marginalized people are involved in

identifying the problems they face.

Empowerment – people who truly participate in their own

development are permanently strenghtened.

Involvement of women – helps in poverty alleviation

Sustainability – a long term approach that seeks to

understand and respect local conditions. Important to
Ensure that the natural resources and the environment of
the people are protected and sustained.
Stage 1: Procurement of seed culture and standardiztion in
laboratory.

Stage 2: Collection of interested individuals and NGOs to

install small scale industries.
Once grants are anounced

Create awareness

Building large farms

Farms with training facilities

Providing free Spirulina

Create model village

Create the market

Women as active participants of the farm

Spirulina tanks Collecting the harvest

Wet slurry is washed and collected Removing the moisture

Collecting the harvest,
maintaining the parameters,
weighing the biomass
Various methods of pond
construction

Oval shaped ponds Huge indoor ponds round cemented ponds

Spirulina Cultivation essentially consists of 4
major steps

 Development of inoculam
 Culturing the Spirulina
 Seperation & washing of the bio-mass
 Drying or dehydration of bio-mass
The farm is an environmentally sound green food machine.

The size and complexity of a Spirulina farm depends on the

quantity needed, the number of emergency victims to
aid, the natural resources available, climate and
economic infrastructure

Spirulina can be easily mixed with yoghurt or fruit juices, or

added to salads and soups. It may also be available
primarly in tablet forms.
