An executive order for all public and private schools in Zamboanga Sibugay was released
on Monday, July 29, mandating all teachers and students in all levels to wear protective clothes
during school days to fight dengue.
Zamboanga Sibugay Governor, Wilter Yap Palma, took an immediate action due to the
dengue outbreak in the entire province. Death casualties among students and children have
greatly affected the community. There is a need to undertake measures and should become
imperative to protect the people and to preserve life.
Executive order no. 1011-07-29-19-011 declares wearing of long pants, long sleeves,
leggings and long socks are needed during regular school days and during other school sponsored
activities. In the meantime, wearing of school uniform is temporarily suspended.
Department of Health-Zamboanga tallied 2,885 dengue cases from January to July. Ipil
town had the most number of cases at 653, followed by Diplahan, Buug, Payao, R.T.Lim,
Kabasalan, Alicia, Titay, Naga and Siay, according to the government data.
On July 16, Zamboanga Sibugay Sangguniang Panlalawigan placed the province under a
state of calamity to have a quick fund for the outbreak.
The declaration was based on the strange increase in dengue cases in Zamboanga Sibugay
this year.
