FX5U GXW3 Using File Password/Permanent PLC Lock Function 
It is possible to password protect Read/Write access to files or parameters inside the CPU module. 

This will secure unauthorized access to either read your code, or download to the PLC.  

There is also a feature that will permanently lock Read/Write access (no password) for the same 
files/parameters. 

The Permanent Lock feature is NOT supported in the iQ‐R CPU series. 

  NOTE: File Password/Permanent PLC Lock cannot both be enabled on the PLC at the same time 

  Once one of them has been set, the PLC CPU must be initialized in order to set the other

File Password Setting 

Step 1: Initialize PLC and download your program to it 

Step 2: Under Project/Security/File Password Setting… select your file(s) 

    

Select the target file (multi‐select using CTRL button and mouse click) and hit the Register button.

Step 3: Select protection required and enter password(s) 
Pull down allows Read/Write, or both. Check allows same password to be used for Read and Write. 

   

Enter the password (the “view” option lets you see what you type and eliminates re‐entry).

Press the “completed” button and you are shown the File Password Setting screen again with your 
protection detailed.

Step 4: Stop PLC and Set Password protection 
Put the PLC in Stop mode with the switch (or through software) 

If the PLC is NOT in stop mode you will get the error screen (on left) if stopped, you will get the 
completion screen (on the right) 

                       

The selected files/parameters are now locked from Read and Write using the password “FESG_2017” 

Press “Ok” 

Step 5: Read/Write (or Verify function) from a new PC: 
Press “Authentication”, enter the password on the next screen, then “Ok”
