and determine maximum negative and positive bending moments.

if any. Find the bending stress for a beam of rectangular cross
section having width*depth are 200*300 mm*mm.

13. A trapezoidal load is acting in the middle portion AB of the

acting on the tips of overhanging sides of the beam as shown.
Draw SFD and BMD. Mark salient features like maximum
positive, negative bending moments and shear forces, inflection
points if any.

15. A beam of 12 m long is supported at 2 m and 10 m
from the left end. It carries uniformly distributed
loads of 15 kN/m over both overhanging lengths
along with a clockwise couple load of 220 kN-m at
mid-span. Draw the shear force and bending moment
diagrams for the beam. Find the position and
magnitudes of maximum bending moment and the
position of the point of contra flexure.
16. A simply supported beam of length 8 m rests on
supports 5 m apart, the right hand end is overhanging
by 2 m and the left hand end is overhanging by 1m.
The beam carries a uniformly distributed load of 5
kN/m over the entire length. It also carries two point
loads of 4 kN and 6 kN at each end of the beam. The
load of 4 kN is at the extreme left of the beam.
Whereas the load of 6 kN is at the extreme right of the
beam. Draw S.F and B.M diagrams for the beam and
find the points of contra flexure.
17. Draw SF and BM diagram for the beam
shown in figure. Indicate the values at all
salient points.
18. Draw the bending moment and shear force
diagram for the beam loaded as shown in
Mark the values at the salient points.
Determine the point of contra flexure also.
19.(a) The intensity of loading on a simply supported
beam of 5 m span increases uniformly from 10 kN/
m at one end to 16 kN/m at other end. Find the
position and magnitude of maximum bending
moment. Also draw SF and BM diagrams.

(b) Draw S.F.D. and B.M.D. for a cantilever


subjected to uniformly varying load with intensity
w/unit length at free end and zero at fixed end. Find
the maximum bending stress for I section having
dimensions : top flange 6 cm wide and 1 cm thick.
Bottom flange 12 cm wide and 1cm thick, web 1
cm thick. Total depth of I section is 12 cm.
20. Draw the SFD and BMD for the beam loaded
as shown in the Figure
21. A simply supported beam of length 10 m
carries a uniformly varying load whose
intensity varies from a maximum value of 5
kN/m at both ends to zero at the centre of the
beam. Draw the variation of 'SF' and 'BM'
diagram. Find the maximum bending stress for
T section having dimensions : flange is 12 cm
wide and 2 cm deep and the web is 1.5 cm
wide and 12 cm deep.
22. (a) A simply supported beam of length L is
having the uniformly varying load of intensity zero
at the both ends and maximum of w/unit length at
the middle of the beam. Draw the SF and BM
diagram.
(b) Draw the SF and BM diagram for a cantilever
beam having uniformly distributed load of intensity
w/unit length over the entire length of L. find the
maximum bending stress for I section with top
flange 8 cm*2 cm thick, bottom flange 16 cm*4 cm
thick and the web is 20 cm deep and 2 cm thick.
