1.SCOPE:
The Scope of this procedure is to provide basic and primary requirements of storage, preservation
to eliminate atmospheric effects such as rain, temperature from the metallic materials which would
form rust, that could find their way into deterioration of all Received Equipments (static/rotary).
The secondary requirement is the exclusion of sand or similar abrasives which may get trapped into
the metallic materials and affect the function of it.
This procedure along with Manufacturer's recommendations will give the protection of metallic
materials to its intended application .
2. Purpose:
The purpose of this procedure is to describe the handling, receiving, preservation and control of
Contractor supplied and Customer-supplied materials when delivered and received to site
laydown yard or warehouse until its issuance or take off for construction or installation.

CM Constructions manager
QCM Quality Control manager
PM Project Manager
DC Document controller
MC Material Controller
QC Quality Control
Responsibilities:
Construction Manager
The Construction Manager and Mechanical Superintendent will be responsible for
Material/Equipment preservation, handling and storage. They are responsible for
performing of field activities entails the use of complex technical product they require
using special tools and preservative items by technically qualified person. CM will be
responsible for Apply only vendor (GE) recommend products on the equipment.
Quality Control department:
The QC is responsible for ensuring that this procedure is effectively and correctively
followed in the construction site. The QC will be responsible for quality, accuracy,
continuity and any corrective actions necessary for maintenance and documentation of
traceability requirements. The procurement supervisor will responsible for coordinating
material receiving inspection as per QC two week look ahead inspection schedule.
They must verify all documents (purchase order, delivery certificate, third party
inspection report, etc ) Inspection report. The QC Supervisor Coordinate with the
procurement department and storekeeper for material receiving inspection and
verifying documents. QC inspector will perform the receiving inspection of all material
and equipment. The QC inspector will be responsible for the equipment preservation at
site as per manufacture's recommendation during installation and storage area.
Storekeeper/Material Coordinator:
The storekeeper takes the overall responsibilities for controlling material/equipment
handling and storage. Storekeeper will be responsible for incoming & outgoing the
equipment/material from the warehouse. Material Coordinator will be responsible for
Incoming material information to give all above mentioned department/person..
PROCEDURE:

Material Receiving/ Material Inspection
AUVA Material Controller (MC) will be responsible to receive all the material.
All material will conform to the relevant material standards. The MC will verify the
requirements as a minimum that all components are properly marked with the
following information.
Material specification / Identification / Heat No / Material grade / Item code no.(as
applicable)
Wall thickness / schedule / diameter. (if applicable)
Colour coding as per Aramco Standard.
Material Controller (MC) will be responsible for all the material issued to jobsite
for erection and preparing material receiving inspection report for all kinds of
materials
All site received material will be inspected & accepted by AUVA Inspector The
responsibility of QC Inspector is to check and verify the identification tags on the
materials. If the materials are rejected during the inspection by the QC Inspector,
the materials will be segregated and tagged with "Rejected" mark.
Increase of overage / shortage / damage; it will be reported in the prescribed
format (Discrepancy Report) to the MC who will notify AUVA for corrective action
or replacement.
Material Controller (MC) will be responsible for all the material issued to jobsite
and preparing material receiving inspection report for all kinds of materials.
Verify that materials are provided of tags of suitable identification.
Immediately report any non-conformity to the missing wrong and damage material.
File the entire packing list relative to the delivered materials until installation is
completed.
Identify any item with under tag or without tag.
Make sure that all items are adequately protected against atmospheric agents .
After checking for any non-conformity, adequately store and preserve all the
material to be assembled in a more advanced stage of the project.
Verify that the storage areas are protected and their access is allowed to
authorized personnel only, in order to avoid any stealing. Along with the client,
provide for any precautionary measure that might be necessary, including the
presence of security personnel (if not available) .
Material Handling:
4|Page
Particular attention must be taken when unloading the materials. Use the
necessary lifting means in function of the crates weight, do not use under-
dimensioned means.
Compliance with site regulations regarding materials handling and storage and
with the applicable safety plan.
Do not stack boxes some boxes might not be structured to bear a load on the
upper part and stacking only one box may result in the collapse of the bottom one
more over for a better check and handling of the materials stacking the boxes
may cause excessive waste of time.
Open the boxes inside storage areas protected from atmospheric agents.
Maximum care will be taken during the transportation and handling of Switchgear,
MCC, , accessory unit & structural materials, etc...
Stainless steel &alloy steel pipes, flanges and fittings will be handled transported
& stored separately.
Extreme care will be taken to prevent the surface of piping, fittings and valves
materials from contamination, damage and corrosion.
Nylon Belts will be used for handling stainless steel materials.
Always attend to the opening of the boxes, external personal could misunderstand
tags.
Check the materials in the boxes against the relevant packing list attached.
Material Storage:
5|Page
All stored materials (lay down areas / warehouse) the open ends will be
covered with caps etc., to avoid foreign particles entry as per project
specifications and requirements.
Manufacturer's storage recommendations will be followed when applicable
Preservation:
Corrosion Prevention:
All carbon and low alloy steels will be protected from moisture ingress.
Painted surfaces should not need any additional protection, but will be examined
periodically for signs or corrosion. If any damage of painted surfaces is found, a
touch-up or re-painting will be made in accordance with the applicable painting
procedure.
All interior and exterior surfaces will be cleaned, dried and examined for moisture
ingress as required any rust preventive materials also apply. If any ingress is
discovered, it will be thoroughly dried out and isolated from the environment.
Unpainted surface that cannot be isolated from the environment will be monitored
periodically. When signs of excessive corrosion are found, required actions will
be advised by QC.
Machined surfaces will be coated with suitable corrosion prevention, regardless
of the method of storage. All items with machined surfaces will be stored in such

a manner as to enable easy access for periodic examinations (minimum monthly),
for any sign of corrosion.
If any special measures for storage have been made by the supplier proper to
shipping, such items will be clearly labelled. During storage, the condition will be
checked periodically.
Corrosion prevention will be applied to the threaded portions of anchor bolts and
nuts and to the contact surfaces of sliding steel plates, upon receipt of materials
and equipment at site.
Vent and drain connections will be plugged, capped, or blinded, as applicable,
using steel fittings. Blinds must be including both side gaskets.
Spare rotating elements will be stored indoors and per the manufacturer's
recommendations.
Cover all inlets and outlets to prevent ingress of moisture or foreign-materials.
Disconnect the battery and follow the supplier recommended storage procedure.
Paintings:
Stainless steels
During storage and after issued to AUVA (at site), all stainless steel components,
equipment and materials will be protected as follows:
Exposure to salt water or spray will not be permitted.
Contact with the ground will not be permitted.
Contact with galvanized materials, Zinc-rich compounds or paints will not be
permitted.
All opening will be blanked off.
Alloys containing more than 10% chromium, equipment, components, and
materials will be protected as follows:
Not in contact with the soil or with porous supports such as raw wood.
The preservation procedures must reflect the potential for environmental conditions
to create contact between the stainless steel and a potential corrosive (e.g., blowing
sand).
Where there are large extremes between day and nighttimes temperatures, care
must be taken to avoid collection of dew point condensation on stainless steel
equipment and materials.
Any special handling preservation, storage, cleaning, packaging, and shipping
requirements will be identified, particularly those that must be accomplished by

qualified individuals in accordance with predetermined work and inspection
instructions
SS Material, components and equipment should be Undercover. (Protective
coatings are acceptable alternatives to covered storage.
