Judul LBM 1: Environment Pollution

Student Study Sheet I

Scenario Environment Pollution
Various kinds of diseases are impacted by environmental factors including physical, chemical and
biological pollution. This indicates that there is an interaction between environment and health. An
estimated 24% of the global disease burden and 23% of all deaths can be attributed to environmental factors.
Diarrhea diseases associated with a lack of access to safe drinking-water and inadequate sanitation result in
nearly 1.7 million deaths annually. Household use of biomass fuels and coal by over one-half of the world's
population, results in 1.5 million deaths a year from pollutionrelated respiratory diseases.
A better understanding of the disease impacts of various environmental factors can help guide
policymakers in designing preventive health programs. The programs should include controlling the root
environmental factors such as air and water quality, patterns of energy use, patterns of waste management
and urban design – which affect health directly and indirectly.

Step 1
1. Diarrhea diseases : disease caused by bacterial infection from contaminated food ; the disease that
characterized by loose, watery stools or a frequent need to have a bowel movement.
2. Biomass fuels : fuel that is developed from organic materials, a renewable and sustainable source
of energy used to create electricity or other forms of power.
3. Pollution : the presence of a pollutan in the environment and is often the result of human actionit
has detrimental effect on environment

Step 2
1. What are the components of environment?
 (a) Micro environment refers to the immediate local surrounding of the organism.
(b) Macro environment refers to all the physical and biotic conditions that surround the
organism externally.
(c) Physical environment refers to all abiotic factors or conditions like temperature, light,
rainfall, soil, minerals etc. It comprises of atmosphere, lithosphere and hydrosphere.
(d) Biotic environment includes all biotic factors or living forms like plants, animals,
Micro-organisms.
2. What kind of the environment sanitation and pollution that affect human?
3. What is relation of health and environment?
 the dirty environment can cause disease so it can affect the degree of human health
4. What are the criteria of good environment?
 Clean, comfortable, free pollution, have a clean river, free of rubbish
5. What is the obstacle to make good environment?
 people do not care with environment, bad habbit like throw the trash carelessly,
6. How to prevent environment pollution?
 1. dispose of rubbish in its place
2. provide a trash can in a certain place
3. don't leave the trash can full
4. clean the trash can regularly
5. clean the floor of the house and parts of the furniture
6. make air circulation in the house
7. open the air vents in home and let the air in and experience air changes
7. What kind of preventive health program that can reduce the impact of environment pollution?
8. What is the benefit of healthy environment?
 Prevent from diseases and disaster like flood, comfortable to live in, have a good quality
of air
9. What is the factor that effect the amount of pollution?
10. What are the factor that cause pollution?
 Cigarette smoke, vehicle emission, forest fires, plant waste
11. What is the respiratory disease cause by pollution?
 Ispa, asma, pneumonia
