Rhetorical analysis of two articles: “Blue collar Brilliance and Busy Trap”
In this assignment, we should be analysis two articles written by two different writers. Look at
how they expressed their objective. First, I will start with "Blue-collar Brilliance" written by
Mike Rose, a professor and author of many books. He makes claims about the judgment and
sight of people and the way they observe blue-collar employees. Rose emphasizes people must
not be recognized by the level of their education but should be verified by the number of skills
they have obtained, and how fast and accurate they are at their workplace. The second article is
"Busy Trap”, written by Time Kreider, the author of "we Learned Nothing," arguing that, in
today's world, everyone makes themselves busy or pretends to be, to make themselves happy.
The author wants his audience to understand that making, or acting busy is not fancy or classy.
Kreider draws audience attention by this statement: "Almost everyone I know is busy. People
feel anxious and guilty when they are not neither working nor doing something to promote their
work. They schedule in time with friends the way students with 4.0 G.P.A's make sure to sign up
Rose says even kids are busy these days with all types of classes, from musical, sport and all
kinds of learning. In the night, they all come home tired as a grown adult working all day. He
adds this condition is not inevitable in life. It is something that we have chosen. Then he gave an
example of his friend moving to France, where she has relaxation time, and all her friends gather
in the coffee shop every night. Kreider thinks that we all should take that enjoyable moment in
Kreider explains his daily routine by working in the morning and riding a bike in the afternoon.
He comes back home and run some errands. In the evening, he sees his friend and has enough
time if he were to be invited out by a friend. He knows those days as the best ordinary days.
Kreider discusses that people who pretend they are busy, give them feel reasonable and more
confident. They think they are more important by showing they are busy. Kreider’s goal with this
article is to advise us, enjoy the time of your life at any age. Kids must have their playtime
instead of having different classes all day. People should enjoy their time together with laughter
and fun, not to work all day long and come home dead, on their feet. No one knows how long
they will be alive. Live like today is your last day of life.
Let’s get back at the first article by Mike rose. He likes people to respect each other , no matter
what jobs they have or what degree they have archive in school. In the first couple of paragraphs,
he tells his audience of his childhood times, when he was observing his mother as waitress. He
claims that his mother was pretty good at remembering who ordered what. She knew how long
each dish took to prepare. Sometimes customer entered with many other needs besides hunger
and his mother responded to all of their needs well. The restaurant became a place to study and
deal with human behaviors. Mike describes that after he grew older, he found out how hard his
mother's job was. It took much physical and mental effort. Mike said, his mother was not able

continue education because she has to raise her brothers and sisters. His father also did not
pursue education. He believed he did not do well in school either. Rose gets his audience's
attention by telling them how bad was his academic records. But finally, with many hardships
and hinder, he was able to graduate from school and get a decent career at school. By stating “I
had the spotty academic record, but with the inspiration of an English teacher, I was able to get
back on track and get my education done. After that, I became a tutor and teacher in many
verities of the way for ten years. Finally, I become a faculty member in the school of education.”
Rose also gives his audience another example of his uncle, Joe. Who, did very well in his
occupation without much education. He said that Joe left school to work. He started working in
general motor. He moved from an assembly line to a supervisor. Rose adds Joe's workplace gave
him what school didn't. But it was still like schooling; everyday Joe learned something new. He
learned how to use his body by acquiring a set of routines that were quick and preserved energy.
Otherwise, Joe was not able to survive on the line. He was capable of obtaining many skills. He
learned how to be multitasked, using both body and brain to work. Rose says, with our cultural
history, many people think intelligence is based on the degree they achieve and how long they
spend time in school. The main goal of this article is, regardless of white-collared employees are
more educated compared to blue-collar employees; they are not necessarily smarter than blue-
collar. Blue collar employees might have obstacle facing them from going to school.
I liked both articles. Both of the writers gave enough examples and provided proof to convey
their idea. Both expressed the opinion of many people. Which all people should be respected the

same, regardless of their occupation and their net worth. As well as having another sight of all
jobs, some low paid jobs required more skills than high paid jobs. Most people may don't have
excellent conditions to continue their education. Same as other article, we better give ourselves,
our family and people around us, time. Don't make ourselves busy with all aspect of life. We
never should think we have plenty of days behind to enjoy, with not knowing when our last day
