INTRODUCTION

According to Chandrasker (2011), he explained that Workplace environment is

important for the motivation of the employees in other to carry out their given task or
job. Supervisors and Managers must show a readiness and willingness to work
effectively in the workplace environment with their staffs provided that all the factors
have been enhanced in other to increase the employee performance. The impact of the
work environment can therefore not be ignored in general.

The importance of the workplace environment has huge effect on the level of
productivity of any Organization. All the resources must be strategically implemented
and carried out in other to enjoy a tangible success in a reasonable amount (Bole et al,
2004). If there is a lack or absence of the key values, there could be a decrement in the
performance of the employee. It might also lead to a defection or absenteeism among
the employees if it’s not well curtailed or corrected on time thereby resulting to the
losses or failure in the Organization (Fredrick, 2002).

All the workplace environment factors that affects the performance of an employee will
be investigated in this research by illustrating clearly the necessity of an effective
working environment in relation to the functions it plays on the performance of the
employee.

Research Background:

Andrew (2008) explained that the work environment has been recognized as the major
platform for every organization practices in the all companies. And they supported with a
lot of constant that must be thoroughly and carefully implemented if the Organization as a
whole have an intention to be successful. And he also explained that the major resource
that can never be underestimated is the employee. Their performance is therefore of a
very high importance for the benefits of the organization as a whole.
According to Hasun (2005) he explained that the absence of a work environment simply
indicates the non-existence of an organization and also the lack of employees with an
adequate performance in an organization also displays the weakness of the productivity of
such Organization. It is therefore paramount to understand the relationship between the
employee and the workplace environment.

Fred (2011), also proposed that a slight fall or negative difference in the workplace
environment factors that affects the performance of the employees might hinder or limit
the proposed goal or plans of such Organization, it is therefore very vital to carry out the
right strategies in other to achieve the desired goals that had been set.

The research will illustrate the workplace environment in a given organization and all the
accompanying factors that might affect the employee performance in any way which might
be positively or negatively. It has an intention of providing a productive solution to any part
of the organization that is experiencing a setback which could be as a result of low
employee performance from the in-appropriation of the factors on the employees in
general.
According to Sarah (2010), she explained that in recent years there had been a lot of issues
arising from the performance of the employee which is as a result of ignoring some
important factors which includes coaching, mentoring, reward and support from the
Management of a particular Organization. It is therefore important to cross check all of the
factor and make a readjustment in areas that are affected.
Adebayo (2009), explained that the role of a good work environment cannot be overlooked
or underestimated if the major goal is to attain productivity in the Organization as whole.

Research Objectives

- How can employees’ performance be interpreted or illustrated?

- To detect the impact of workplace environment on employee performance.
- To analyze and investigate the extent to which the following factors associated with the
workplace environment affecting the performance of the employees in reference to:
Role Congruity; Defined Process; Opportunity to Apply; Job Aids; Performance
Feedback; Mentoring/Coaching; Workplace Incentives; Supervisor Support; and Goal
Setting as proposed by Leslie Allan (2004) .
- Analyze the relationship between the workplace environment factors influencing
employees’ performance.

Research Hypothesis

This research will focus on addressing the following hypotheses:

Ho1: Supervisor Supports has a significant effect employees’ performance.

Ho2: Performance Feedback has a significant effect employees’ performance.
Ho3: Work Incentives has a significant effect employees’ performance.

Ho4: Defined Process has a significant effect employees’ performance.

Ho5: Role Congruity has a significant effect employees’ performance.
Ho6: Mentoring and Coaching has a significant effect employees’ performance.

Ho7: Opportunity to apply has a significant effect employees’ performance.

Ho8: Goal setting has a significant effect employees’ performance.
Ho9: Job aids has a significant effect employees’ performance.

Conceptual Framework

The conceptual framework of this research will mix the Dependent Variables and
Independent Variables. All of the workplace factors will be established as the
independent variable while the Employee performance will be analyzed as the
Dependent variable. The figure below explains relativity between the 2 variables that
would be examined in the research.
Independent variables

Dependent variables
 Performance
Feedback
 Role Congruity
 Defined Process
 Workplace
Employees’
incentives
 Supervisor Support Performance
 Mentoring/Coaching
 Opportunity to apply
 Job Aids
 Goal-Setting

The conceptual framework used for the research was suggested by Leslie Allan (2003)
includes; this study used the framework as proposed by Leslie Allan, which analyzed the
workplace environment factors as: goal setting, mentoring/coaching, performance
feedback, role congruity, workplace incentives, supervisor support, opportunity to
apply, job aids and defined process.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

According to Creswell (2008), he explained methodology the standardized theoretical

determination of the procedure that is used in a particular study field. This chapter will
illustrates all the methods adopted for the gathering of the data significant to this
research. It comprises of the size of the sample, respondents population, design of the
research, procedure for the collection of data, interpretation and analysis and
interpretation of the findings from the research.

Research Design

A descriptive research design will be used to get all the needed information from the
respondents. This is useful because of its ability to generate a good and the required
amount of the data needed easily by the identification of their various characteristics.
The major concern of this design is its usefulness to answer the basic questions that has
to do with a variation of what, where, how and when.
Area of Study and Research

The study area of this research will involve various private companies located in
Vietnam, Nigeria, UK, Canada and the US. This study aims to target the employees in
diverse environment because the response will be able to point out at the different
experience in relation to the performance of an employee and their work environment.

Population of study

Therefore, the target population of this study included workers and it has its major
focus on employees in particular. The total population size required for this research is
a minimum of 30 people and a maximum of 50 people. The people involved are
randomly selected from various departments in different companies.

Sample Size and Sampling Techniques

Sample Size:

In this study, a sample of 50 respondents of random employees from different

companies will be used to provide the necessary answers for the questionnaires for the
purpose of getting the findings of the study. A sample of 100 respondents were selected
and this selection involves the employees who have the vital information for the study
by virtue of their position and experience in their various companies. Although the total
required number of respondents needed for this research is only 50 respondents.

Sampling Techniques
The questionnaires will also be sent via email to various respondents in some companies
in other avoid distance or inconveniences that might be experienced by the respondents
of the researcher. While some of the questionnaires will be sent to some companies as a
hard copy and there might be a face to face encounter between the researcher and the
respondents in some scenarios or where it is possible to get all the required
information.

Data Collection Methods

This research will use a quantitative method of data collection. This was choose because
of the easy access to get the needed data from respondents by the researcher.

Data Collection Tools

There are two major tools that will be used to obtain adequate and reliable
information for this study. These include interviews and questionnaires of both
structured and semi-structured nature. This study will use data collection tools which
will involve observation, interview and questionnaires.

Questionnaire

The main data collection will be done using an already developed questionnaire,
designed to collect the data from employees by using a likert- Scale such as; Not at all,
To Some Extent, Often, Mostly, and Always.

Research Implementation Schedule

The research will be carried out on different levels and stages as a whole. Although the time
frame for the research will be given by the university which could be accompanied by a
deadline but I will be able to meet up with any time frame given. My personal implementation
plan for the project includes various stages which are explained below.
First Stage: This stage would involve gathering the necessary materials required and needed for
the research. This would involve getting related materials from previous scholars in relation to
the research, related articles on the internet and information from textbooks as well.

Second Stage: This stage would involve analyzing and writing the literature review. This stage
would also require a thorough supervision and support by the given Supervisor. The literature
review will be the bedrock and the major platform for the research to be carried out. This stage
will involve the analysis of the theoretical models or framework that would be used for the
research.

Third Stage: This stage would involve the data collection from the respondents through the use
of the survey and questionnaire that will be used in the research. The data will be collected
using different means and techniques. Some of the survey would be sent to the respondents
through email by using and preparing a Google survey by asking the question related to the
research purpose. A physical contact would also be used and this would involve having an
interview with the respondents where it is necessary.

Fourth Stage: This stage would involve the analysis of all the data collected from the
respondents while using the survey. In this stage, the major factors with a very high response
would be thoroughly examined before the final analysis would be conducted with the use of
SPSS.

Fifth Stage: at this stage the whole research would have been completed and the researching
will be prepare for a thesis defense. This stage will help to explain how the research was carried
out from the beginning to the end.
