FIRST AID

simple accidents, such as trips or slips, are a common element in the day-to-day hustle and bustle
of school life. However, these little accidents are capable of causing serious injuries and worse.

Guaranteeing our children are safe in school is one of the top priorities of parents, teachers and
school administration. This has brought first aid training to the forefront making it a priority in
schools. Having students and staff trained in first aid not only boosts the safety of the entire
school, but it also can be the difference between life and death in the event of a medical
emergency.

Many accidents occur in schools ranging from minor scrapes and wounds to fractures and other
health problems that require a swift initial medical response. Providing students with first aid
training helps to reduce risk and empower them with the ability to assess and manage the
situation in the event of a medical emergency.

What is First Aid Training?

In the event of a medical emergency, first aid is the initial assistance provided to a child or
individual while waiting for the medical professionals to arrive. In the worst of cases, first aid
can be the difference between life and death.

According to National Ambulance, in 2016 they responded to almost 5,000 calls every day from
citizens in the UAE in need of medical assistance. Their average response time was just under 9
minutes. Add to that the amount of time it would take to transport individuals in need of medical
assistance to the hospital, and the initial response provided by people trained in first aid proved
very beneficial.

First Aid Training for Students

First aid training for students provides them with the life-saving techniques needed to provide an
initial response in the event of medical emergency. Initial medical response training empowers
students with the tools and information they need to offer help for others in the event of a
nosebleed, or if someone is choking, unresponsive, has a broken bone, an allergic reaction, or an
asthma attack (among others). First aid training for students not only provides a valuable life
skill, but they also learn to be responsible for the welfare others, adding to the sense of
community within a school.

Introducing first aid training for students provides them with invaluable life skills. Training also helps to
build their communication skills, self-confidence, and the ability to work well with others. First aid
requires leadership, the patience to listen to those around you, and encourages teamwork. Training
helps build these skills, which are incredibly versatile and will continue to assist students long into their
lives.
