FOUNDATION COURSE-BUSINESS MATHEMATICS

Course aims at equipping student with a broad based knowledge of mathematics with emphasis on
business applications. It is designed in such a way that a student who have basic knowledge of
mathematics can apply it for its business purposes.

Objective the course:

1. To understand and apply basic mathematical operations.


2. To understand the concepts of sequences & series applying these for solving business
problems.
3. To understand the concepts of matrices & their operations to solve business problems.
4. To understand the concept and application of Permutations & Combinations in business.
5. To know the concepts of differentiation & integration to develop & interpret business model.
6. Developing skills for using computer based application for solving business related mathematical
problem.

We will start with assuming that students do not have any prior knowledge of mathematics or have very
basic idea about it. We might be covering some basics of mathematics in next few session so that each
and every student become comfortable with basics of mathematics. Following basic concepts will be
covered in next few session

Mathematical preliminaries:
 Basic Arithmetic operations
 Fractions-Adding, Multiplying and Dividing
 Calculating percentages, Ratio,
 Power and roots
 Simple and Compound Interest
 Using electronic calculator for calculation
