Vertigo
The film vertigo revolves around the
character of John "Scottie" Ferguson, a
police detective who resigns the force
because his fear of heights had led to the
death of another officer while chasing a
criminal on the rooftops of San Francisco.
Elster, an old friend of Scotty, hires him as a
private investigator to spy on his wife,
Madeleine. Elster is worried about his wife
and believes that a metaphysical power has
taken over her body. In the process, Scotty
finds himself in love with Madeline, and
soon she kills herself by jumping off a tall
church tower. He was not able to save her
because his vertigo did not allow him to
reach the top of the tower. As the story
unfolds, it further reveals that Madeline’s
death was framed by Elster as an accident
and Scotty was only hired to witness it

Harry Potter and the
Philosopher's Stone
It is an adaptation of the first novel from the
series Harry Potter by J.K Rowling. The
story begins as an eleven-year-old boy finds
out that his parents were famous wizards
and that he is summoned at Hogwarts
School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to study
magic. There he makes two new friends
Ron and Hermione. A very prominent
feature of the school is its moving
staircases. Their primary purpose is to
connect all the floors. One day the three of
them find themselves on a moving staircase,
and it changes their path leading them to the
restricted floor. Later Harry finds himself to
be in possession of the Philosopher’s Stone
and uses it to fight Voldemort.
Different uses of stairs throughout the film

Comparison
• To achieve height
• Pathway to the
stage
• Very integral part
of the plot

• As a final stage/
destination
• Assists the plot in
many ways, but not
the key element

• As a pathway bet-
-ween two or more
points
• It is significant, but
not as much as the
earlier ones
Conclusion
• Thriller/Romance
• Psychological
horror
• Fantasy(magic)
