TYPES OF NETWORK (LAN>CAN>MAN>WAN)
LAN (Local Area Network)
 The simplest type of network
 Connects network devices over a relatively
short distance.
WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network)
 Same as LAN but this one is a wireless
 Example of this is Wi-Fi or Wireless
Fidelity
CAN (Campus Area Network)
 Larger than LAN
 It can cover the universities or campuses
MAN (Metropolitan Area Network)
 This type of network is larger than LAN but
smaller than WAN
SAN (Storage Area Network)
 Use to hold huge amount of data
WAN (Wide Area Network)
 Connecting all computers together around
the world.

Network Topology
 Refers to layout of a network.
 A network topology is the arrangement of a
network, including its nodes and
connecting lines.

 Physical topology (Physical layout)
 Logical Topology (Flow of data)
Different types of network topology
Point-to-Point
 P2P
 Is a simple topology that displays the
network of exactly two computers
connected with a cable.
Linear/Line Topology
 Each device is connected one after the
other in a sequential chain.
Bus Topology
 Is a network setup in which each computer
and network device are connected to a
single cable or backbone.
Ring Topology
 Is a network configuration in which device
connections create a circular data path.
 Each networked device is connected to two
others, like points on a circle.
 Unidirectional: clockwise
 Bidirectional:clockwise/counter clockwise
Star Topology
 Devices are connected to a central
computer, called a hub.
 Nodes communicate across the network by
passing data through the hub.
Extended star topology

Tree Topology
 It consists of groups of star-configured
workstations connected to a linear bus
backbone cable.

Partially connected
 Some nodes of the network are connected
to more than one other node in the
network.

Fully connected
 All nodes are connected to one another.

Hybrid
 Is a type of network topology that uses two
or more differing network topologies.
