L-Edit Display
6. Cursor will moved to any color button, to see the name of layer.
2. DRAWING THE POLYGON & WRITE THE PORT
1. Cursor was moved to the boxes to choose layer. See the mouse function box.
2. any tool bar was choosed to draw the box, line, circle, triangle and the other.
polygon that we are choosed want and pressed <Alt> at the same time moved mouse to place
where to put this polygon
Move only the polygon edge/ expand the size object
1. Polygon was choosed . <Ctrl C>was pressed for copy and <Ctrl V> for paste. Then
c<Alt> was clicked to put copied polygon to place anywhere.
Type port
1. To type port, make sure it type on basic layer. Basic Polygon also must be from the same
layer.
2. on the text area was Put mouse cursor. port name was put as wanted. Changed the text size.
Then clicked ‘OK’
OK

2. Type in the space provided location of the file DRC which you want to L-Edit
write. For example: - \ \ Ecad \ sew4213 \ user \ filename.DRC. File name is
free. Clicked on "OK." Display as below will appear.
3. To remove the error (cross,) clicked on the Tools menu> Clear Error
Layer. Displayed will appear. Clicked on "OK."
1. Maked the transistors are in a horizontal or side by side by using 'Rotate. "
2.
*Design rule checking or check (DRC) determines whether the physical layout satisfies a series of
recommended parameters called design rules.
*Nibble icon is used when we need to cut the overlapping area of a polygon.
*Black colour
Discussion
During the lab , we had learned about L-Edit software. L-Edit is a complete integrated circuit (IC)
layout editor with many built-in tools including a design rule checker and a layout extractor.
L-Edit can be used for doing traditional IC design and can also be used for designing
microelectromechanical structures (MEMS). A unique feature of L-Edit is its ability to obtain a
cross sectional view of the designed device. This is especially valuable when doing MEMS design.
There is a Student Version of L-Edit that is available. The student version runs on a PC . Although
the student version of L-Edit contains all of the drawing features of the full professional version.
Conclusion
From this experiment, we had learned about the L-Edit software. We had learned how to draw the
polygon and write the port using L-Edit software. We had draw the polygons according to the
height, length, and width given. We had check the errors using DRC function based on the design
rule. We also corrected the errors by using clear error layer. After that we had edit it and check it
and get the result without any errors. Lecturer also helps us to overcome the problems .
