Nowadays global warming and the frenetic life style are two of the most quoted issues of modern

society.

Surely, the increase in the number of vehicles per family has had a great influence on traffic and pollution,

therefore a raise in the price of petrol may be a subtle incentive to public transport use.

Are vehicles at all necessary? If so, how many should a family be supposed to have?

A drastic reduction is necessary to reboot modern society, to ensure a healthier lifestyle of its citizens. First

of all, increasing petrol’s price could be an effective measure, as a result most families will prefer to save

their precious earnings by travelling on public transport. However it is not to be considered as a long term

measure, considering that a considerable percentage of workers or any person in danger has the right to

use private vehicles without being overwhelmed by the added expense.

Another solution that has been recently adopted by some Italian cities, is the alternate plate blockage.

Pollution has been a major issue, especially in the nothern part of Italy where the geographical
configuration of the territory and the elevated number of industries have brought CO2 levels to unbearable

levels. For this reason, it has been decided that in alternate days only even or odd plate numbers can be in

circulation.

It will be too late when governments will have understood the threat that the high number of vehicles

represent, the raise in petrol price needs to be considered a first step towards a major evolution in human

society.
