Dear Members of RUPI

Novice, Amateur, Pro, Enthusiasts, Everyone are Welcomed to Join the RUPI
FRIENDLY Weekly Photo Theme Competition..

This Friendly Photo Challenge is not about WINNING or LOSING. It's about
our Passion, Vision and Hard Work and thriving on a Challenge. It's about
your dedication in Photography and embracing the Hardship and hurdles that
you'll experience.. WIN or LOSE.

While this challenge or contest does not promise material and tangible
remunerations, efforts will certainly not go to waste because members will
gain new insights, learn something new each week aside from meeting and
creating new friends --- THIS IS PRICELESS!

WELCOME to the Arena and we hope for your Full and Active participation in
this Friendly activity with the Objective of promoting interactions, Friendship
and Camaraderie.. CHEERS! :)

HOW THE CONTEST GOES:

SUBMISSION OF ENTRIES
1. The Weekly Photo Contest is open to all members of MEGA PIXEL
International. Admins and special judges (either external or invited judges)
are not ALLOWED to join the photo competition.

2. Participating members can only submit ONE (1) entry. The photo must be
absolutely owned and the shot must be taken by the member himself. MPI
may occasionally require the ORIGINAL copy of the photo with the EXIF data
intact in case of doubt of ownership and/or protest raised against the
submitted entry.

3. Photo Entry submitted must have a caption, indicating:

 My Entry to: (Theme Title)

 SHORT Title of the Photo (example: The Ruins)

 Place where the photo was taken (example: Sydney, Australia)

 SHORT Description (Optional- recommended but not required)

 EXIF data- (Optional- recommended but not required)

4. Photos that have been posted in the MPI Wall and Losing Entries in the
previous Competitions may be resubmitted as entries.

5. Photos that have been FINALISTS and/or Have Won in the MPI Weekly
Theme Photo Competition are no longer qualified as an entry.

6. If a Member submits more than one (1) entry, he must choose which to
retain and IMMEDIATELY remove or DELETE the others. If the member/s
fail/s to do this, Admins will DELETE the last ENTRIES entered and will
retain his/her first entry as his/her OFFICIAL ENTRY.

7. Entries should be uploaded by the participants in a SPECIAL ALBUM that


will be created by the Admins for the Theme and will be PINNED on the Wall.

8. As copyright protection, water marking is is allowed but not required. If


members will use watermark, it should be discreet and will not cause
distraction to avoid getting low score.
9. Submission of entries for the weekly competition will start every Sunday
beginning at 10:00pm Hongkong/Philippine Time. Cut-off time of submission
is Exactly 6:00 PM of every Thursday, Hongkong/Philippine time.

JUDGING

10. All entries will be scored by a distinguished Panel of Five (5) Judges
(Photographer Admins and/or Guest Judges) on a 10-point scale rating system
based on the following criteria:

CRITERIA:

 Relevance to the Theme (35%) - How the photo is connected to the theme

 Composition (35%) - How you combined elements to make your photo entry
a singular work of art.

 Overall Impression (30%) - The overall effect/impact your photo entries


create in the feelings, intellect, conscience, etcetera of the viewer/audience.

RESTRICTIONS:

 Single Shot Photo only. Black & White is Allowed.

 No Multiple Exposures and Frames

 Composite photos or multi Layered Photo is not Allowed including multi


exposure bracketed shots used to produce HDR photos

 Post Processing is allowed to adjust and enhance the overall appearance of the
image, but OVERDOING it will have NEGATIVE Impact on the Scores

 Dodging and Burning is conditionally Allowed: Dodging (to brighten shadows)


or burning (to darken highlights) is fine, but please don’t overdo it. Your goal
in using digital darkroom techniques should be to adjust the dynamic tonal
range of an image so that it more closely resembles what you saw.
 Color Saturation is allowed but Just as with dodging and burning, your goal
should be to make it real. Please avoid significant over- or under-saturation. A
lot of photographers make the mistake of over-saturating color, making their
images look cartoonish.

 Solarizattion, Dual Tone, Mezzo Tint, etc - These will have negative impact in
the scores. There are a myriad of alteration "filters" available in digital photo
software but using it is highly discouraged.

 Do not alter the Photograph. If you have digitally added or removed anything
the entry will be disqualified. The faithful representation of what you saw at
the time of the shot must be maintained.

 Stitched panoramas are NOT considered as single Shot Photo. Panorama sizes
(2:1 ratio or higher) are not advisable to be used in the contest, scoring will be
significantly affected

 Photos with quotes are not allowed.

 Selective Coloring is considered a Manipulation and will have major impact on


the score.

 Cropping is Allowed but avoid Panoramic sizes.

11. Judges will do the scoring individually and independently using the
scoresheet provided and then submitted to the Tabulator/s within the
deadline. Judges' scoresheets are treated confidential and are not shown to
any of the co-Judges and other Admins. Comparing of notes and scores are not
Allowed All judges' scores will be tabulated and averaged.

The top TWENTY FIVE+ (25+) Semi finalist photos with the highest Judges
Average Scores (JAS rating) based on the Tabulated Scoresheets will be
presented at the Admins' Page via POLL Voting to select the 20 Finalists. The
Finalist result willl be arranged in a collage and will be announced and
presented at RUPI every Friday at 8:00pm Jakarta time.
 (In case of multiple ties of scores in the last position/s of the Top 20, the
deadlock will be resolved and decided via Admin/Judges' POLL voting to
determine which photo/s will fill up the last slot/slots of 20 Finalists.)

12. For the FINAL Results, Admins' Votes Rating (AVR) votes will be
converted into a WEIGHTED SCORE depending on the Ttoal Votes Cast and
will be combined with the Judges' Average Score (JAS) on a 20-80 split in
which 20% will come from the Admins’ votes/polling and 80% from the
Honorable Judges' Average Ratings.

The Admins Choice (ACA) and The Judges' Choice (JCA) will be done every
Saturday in the Admin Page and will be based on the 20 Finalists. The
selection of ACA and JCA is done in secrecy where the Admins and Judges will
cast their votes via PM ONLY to the tabulator).

 For the ACA - Admins who are NON-JUDGE will select their Top 3 Finalists
independently and cast their Votes SECRETLY via PM to the Tabulator. The
TOP Choice will be declared the ACA winner. Ties at the top are considered
winner.

 For the JCA - The 5 Honorable Judges will cast their votes secretly and send to
the tabulator. Judges will independently select their TOP 3 Finalists as their
"Judges' Choice". The Top Choice after tabulation will be declared JCA winner.
Ties at the Top are considered winner.

(The process of selections is covered in a separate Internal Guidelines for the


Admins and Judges.)

13. Decision of the Board of Judges will be final.

WINNERS:

14. A number of Participants stand to win each week. Announcement will be


made every Sunday between 8:00 TO 9:00 p.m. Jakarta time (In case of ties in
Ranks the FINALS, we are going to Award the medals to all who figured out in
the Ties.).These are the Medals and Awards at Stake:

 Gold Winner - 1

 Silver Winners - 2

 Bronze Winners - 3

 Meritorious Award (MA) - 5

 Judges' Choice Award (JCA) - 1

 Admins Choice Award (ACA) - 1

Winning photos will be placed in a Special Album that will be created solely
for Weekly Photo Contest winners.

Other SPECIAL AWARDS will also be given


on these occasion:

 GRAND SLAM (GS) - for entry winning the 3 Top Awards of the week (i.e
GOLD Medal, Judges' Choice Award and the Admins' Choice Award)

15. Winners will retain all rights to his/her photographs/pictures. However,


MEGA PIXEL International expects authority to use these photographs in
furthering the mission of the group site; use photographs for non-commercial
communications (logos, banners, masts, and the likes); and archive the files
for reference.

16. The Gold Winner's photo will be used as the Official Banner or Cover Photo
of the Group site for the whole week, until such time a new Gold Winner for
the succeeding week has been announced.

ACTIVITY TIMELINE (to follow Jakarta time)


 Sunday 10 pm - Start of submission of Entries

 Thursday 6:00 pm -Cut off of Submission of Entries / Upload the teaser on


RUPI wall for the next Theme Challenge

 Thursday 6:00 pm up to Friday 6 am - Submission of Judges Scoresheet

 Friday 6:00 am --- Tabulation of Scoresheets and generation of Overall


Results (Resolve Ties if any).

 Friday 8:00 pm --- Announce and post the collage of 20 Finalists on the WALL

 Saturday - Admins votes for the Admins Choice Award (ACA) in a special Poll
voting in the Admin page and Judges' Secret Voting to select the Judges'
Choice Award (JCA).

 Sunday - Final Result of Winners. Creation of AWARDS/Certificates.

 Sunday 8:00 pm --- ANNOUNCEMENT of winners

 Sunday 10:00 pm-- Opening of the new Entry Album for next Theme contest.

Fairness, Credibility and Integrity of the System and Event)
