Definition:

o Election
- A formal and organized choice by vote of a person for a political office or other position.
- The action of electing or the fact of being elected.

o Suffrage
- The right to vote in political elections.

o Party List System


- The Party list system is a proportional election system in which the proportion of seats won is
as close to the proportion of votes won as is possible. Voters vote for a party, not a candidate,
and the party gets roughly the same proportion of seats as votes.

o Political Party
- The definition of a political party is a group of people with similar political goals and opinions. The
purpose of the political party is to get candidates elected to public office. An example of a political
party is the Republican Party.

o Social Organization
- The kinship structure of a culture or society especially as constituted in a stabilized network of
rules of descent and residence.

o Non-government Organization
- A non-governmental organization (NGO) is any non-profit, voluntary citizens' group which is
organized on a local, national or international level. Task-oriented and driven by people with a
common interest, NGOs perform a variety of service and humanitarian functions, bring citizen
concerns to Governments, advocate and monitor policies and encourage political participation
through provision of information. Some are organized around specific issues, such as human
rights, environment or health. They provide analysis and expertise, serve as early warning
mechanisms and help monitor and implement international agreements. Their relationship with
offices and agencies of the United Nations system differs depending on their goals, their venue and
the mandate of a particular institution.

o Social Movement
- A social movement is a large group of people who are organized to promote or resist some social
change. A social movement is typically based upon two factors - first, whom the movement is trying
to change, and second, how much change a movement is advocating. Social movements can
occur at the individual level or at the societal level, and they can advocate for either minor or radical
changes.

o COMELEC
- The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) is an independent Constitutional body mandated to
enforce and administer all laws and regulations relative to the conduct of elections, plebiscite,
initiative, referendum and recall for the purpose of ensuring free, orderly, peaceful and credible
elections. It was created in l935 by the Philippine Constitution, and reiterated in the l973
Constitution and the Freedom Constitution of l986 and l987. Its scope of operations,
organization, personnel systems and means of conducting the election on manual basis have
remained essentially the same despite the series of important developments in the political
landscape that have introduced new dimensions to COMELEC functions.

o National Parties
- (in New Zealand) the more conservativeof the two mainpolitical parties.
- (in Australia) a political party drawingits main support from ruralareas.
- (in South Africa) a political party composedmainlyof centre-to-right-wing Afrikaners, which
ruledfrom 1948 until the country's first multiracialelectionsin
1994: renamedthe New NationalParty (NNP) in 1997, it mergedwith the ANC in 2005.
o Sectoral Parties
- An organized group of citizens whose principal advocacy
pertains to the special interests and concerns of the following sectors like
labor, indigenous, professionals, etc.

o Regional Parties
- Regional parties are parties restricted to a particular' state and rooted in both regional
aspirations and grievances. The support base of the party is limited to a particular state because
it identifies itself with the region's culture, language, religion etc.

o Pre-proclamation Controversy
- Pendency of pre-proclamation controversy. – The pendency of a pre-proclamation
controversy involving the validity of the proclamation as defined by law shall suspend the running
of the period to file an election protest.

o Plebiscite
- The direct vote of all the members of an electorate on an important public question such as
a change in the constitution.

o Referendum
- A general vote by the electorate on a single political question which has been referred to them for a
direct decision.

o Initiative
- The ability to assess and initiate things independently.
- The power or opportunity to act or take charge before others do.

o Recall
- An act or instance of officially recalling someone or something.
- The action or faculty of remembering something learned or experienced.
