Mr. Joey Glenn Cabana, School Partnership Focal Person orient us about
the field that were about to ponder, together with Mrs. Danilyn C. Dela Pena
Work Immersion Teacher and Miss Cynthia A. Clarito, Acting Municipal
Agriculturist.
Ma'am Clarito orient us about the activities that we're going to perform
and give us some knowledge about Trichogramma, Brontispa and Wood Vinegar.
Our first field is Trichogramma; we harvested the Corcyra moth and its
egg. Putting Corcyra moth into laying cage. We collect Corcyra eggs by brushing
the laying cage, sieving it by the strainer, cleaning it by rolling on bond paper
and storing it to a cup and then, infestation of Corcyra egg into a cup.
After that we harvest Corcyra egg and infestation into a cup of corn bran.
We prepared corn bran for sterilization for 45 minutes, cooling down and
transferring to the boxes. Then making strips out of cartolina. Preparing food for
the earwigs (dog food) and then watering and feeding the earwigs
It’s our last day in the field of Trichogramma. Together with the six
learners from Leon NHS, we are applying Trichogramma at Victoriano Cabila
farm, Buntalan Leon, Iloilo.
We collect a few Brontispa and then head back to the Hot Water
Treatment to do the segregation. Separate the eggs, young and matured larvae,
pupa and adult.
After that Sir Jasher consume the time lecturing us about Brontispa and
its treatment. Tetrastichus is not yet available so, we can't perform the
parasitation.
It’s our seventh day in our work immersion, first day in the field of Wood
Vinegar at Catalino Cabico Farm with Ma'am Margilen De Los Santos.
Collecting and cutting coconut leaves for the supply in making wood
vinegar. But before we proceed Tay Catalino lectures us about how wood vinegar,
fruit juice and plant juice made. Also Tay Catalino execute on what are we going
to do and teach us the processing of wood vinegar.
Eighth day of our work immersion, and it’s our second day in the field of
Wood Vinegar. Together with the group 2 we continue the process on producing
wood vinegar; they are with us, because they’re going to harvest their malunggay
juice.
While they are harvesting, Tay Catalino lead us to his greenhouse with
This is the last day of work immersion but we continue producing Wood
Vinegar at Lanag in the farm of Tay Catalino. Then we harvested wood vinegar
and put it in a plastic bottle and also harvested the vegetable juice.
After that we give some Noche Buena package and some utensils to Tay
In the afternoon, we had a Thanksgiving Program for all the time and
efforts that our Work Immersion Teachers spend to us. We also give them gifts
as a token of appreciation.

"To achieve contact with reality is not to transport one elsewhere; it is not
transcendence but thorough immersion in one's surrounding’s. A reality which
is neither purely physical nor metaphysical but both at once." - Antoni Tapies
Many things come along with my mind. Am I ae to face this kind of work? Maybe
it's difficult to handle, I can't do this. I am a silent type of person; can I easily
mingle to our neither Supervisors nor Facilitators?
But those things running through my mind vanished; I gain strength, courage,
and confidence when I already tried the everyday experience of having Work
Immersion. I just said to myself that I can take the next thing that comes along.
On the first week of our Work Immersion, we were assigned in the field of
Trichogramma which we learn how to cook corn bran, harvesting adult moth
feeding earwigs, etc. In this field I learn a lot. It makes me realize that these
small things really do existed and this kind of small of things gives a big help to
the farmers to have less expenses to their crops and also to have a good quality
of products.
In the field of Brontispa, where this pest is attacking the coconut leaves in both
young and mature coconuts. Also in this field we have our know-how in
exterminating this pest (Brontispa). In this immersion, all we have is lots of
efforts, be more responsible enough to classify Brontispa into egg, larvae, pupa
and adult wherein the young pupae are used for the parasitazation by the
parasitoid Tetrastichus.
Aside from these two fields, we also have training at Wood Vinegar. Our group
observes and masters the process of making wood vinegar. Wood vinegar is
liquid that is generated from a gas and the combustion of fresh wood burning in
an airless condition. It has also many benefits not only in crops but also us
human.
Overall, it may be said that Work Immersion is a greater help to enhance our
skills, knowledge and ability not only in academics area but also in this kind of
field. It serves as a way to hone our working skills in preparation for our future
career.

It's our first day of work immersion. Each one of us feels the presence of
excitement for we are about to discover new learning’s in every field and also do
some different types of work. We assemble at front of Leon Tourism Building
because Mr. Joey Glenn Cabana, School Partner Focal Person, oriented us about
the Work Immersion. Ma’am Sencia A. Clarito, Acting municipal Agriculturist,
introduced us to the Facilitators who is going to guide us throughout our work
days.
Our groups were assigned in the field of Trichogramma, while the other
groups were also in different field.
Ma'am Rowena feel sorry to us because we can't perform the exact step in
Trichogramma Production. We understand due to the incomplete facilities in the
lab.
To end our day, we signed our attendance and go home full of new
enjoying experiences.
It’s our second day in our Work Immersion; we arrived early but it’s still
closed, while waiting we decided to clean the windows and area at Bio-Con
Laboratory.
In the afternoon, we had our extra activity, Ma’am Dyna our supervisor
assigned us to do the price monitoring at Leon Bagsakan. April updated the
price board that we have gathered from Tay Pedring the Chairman of Leon
Bagsakan.
To call it a day, were just do our daily routine; watering and cleaning the
area of Bio-Con Laboratory, signing out our attendance and go home full of new
learning’s.
We are now going to Isian Leon, Iloilo at Mr. Willie Cabarles farm, Sir
Jasher do the demonstration and gives us some hints by simply looking at the
coconut leaves. Group of Brenn leads us collecting the Brontispa; we cut the
infected young coconut leaves using the pruning shears.
To sum up, before we go home, we clean the area, do the gardening and
signed out our attendance.
Fourth day in our Work Immersion and also it is our last day in the field
of Trichogramma. We were excited because we are now applying the
Trichogramma (Chilonis) together with the 6 immerses students from Leon
National High School.
Ma’am Dyna Capalla gives first her instruction before we officially start
applying the Trichogramma strips Victoriano Cabila Farm, Buntalan Leon, Iloilo.
Tay Victoriano welcomes us as he leads the way going to his farm. He gives some
knowledge about all his plantation; Eggplant, bitter gourd, bottle gourd and
pechay. We are going to apply the Trichogramma strips to all the plants at Tay
Victoriano’s farm.
After applying Tricho Strips, we harvested the pechay that Tay Opong’s
gives to us. We head back and proceeds to Hot Water Facility Treatment as were
going to cook the pechay that we have harvested for our lunch.
Today is the day that we are having our Educational Tour at Western
Visayas Integrated Agricultural Research Center (WESVIARC), Hamungaya,
Jaro, Iloilo. We are excited because we’re going to experience and see the main
Biological Control that has complete and bigger facility for the Trichogramma
Mass Production.
As we arrived there, we met Mr. Ivan Sioson who works at the Laboratory;
he introduced the activities that were going to perform later. We divided in 4
groups so that, each group can experience all the activities. We first deal in
cooking of corn bran for 45 minutes. Second, we transfer 1 kilo of corn bran to
boxes and infest 1 cup of cultured Corcyra eggs. Third, put the infested cups to
the Larvae Development Room. Fourth, collecting adult moth using the test
tubes and we put it into the egg laying cage. Lastly, we sieve Corcyra eggs to the
strips with the glue (gum Arabic and water).
Sixth day of our work immersion, the ending is yet to come. It is our last
day in the field of Brontispa, together with our facilitator Sir Jasher guides us to
the Hot Water Treatment Facility to check first our attendance and discussed to
us if where we are going to collect Brontispa.
Afterwards we proceed to the farm of Tirabio Taba to also collect the pest
attacking Brontispa, but we only collected few. So, we went back to Hot Water
Treatment Facility to segregate the egg, young larvae, mature larvae, pupae and
adult Brontispa from each other.
It’s our first day at Brgy. Lanag in the field of wood vinegar. We walked a
few minutes to reach the farm. In order not to feel tired we're just chatting and
enjoying each other’s company together with Ma'am Marg. When we arrived at
Tay Catalino's farm where the wood vinegar located we feel the presence of
excitement because we also want to try and learn the processing of doing wood
vinegar.
Before we officially proceed in doing wood vinegar Tay Catalino told us to;
first, we collect the parts of coconut where he cut a while ago. All of us help each
other to pull the coconut leaves and then Ian begun to cut it into small pieces.
And also all of us try to cut it but Kurt cuts it differently. Second, Tay Catalino
starts to lecture about what is wood vinegar, fruit juice, and the plant juice.
Ma'am Marg told us that we should listen attentively and do some notes because
we don't have time to perform it so, Tay Catalino gives his very best to lecture for
us to understand. He also introduce the effectiveness of wood vinegar as a
medicine so, Ian try the wood vinegar on his wound.Third, Tay Catalino also
lectured about the Mother EM (E Mass). And lastly, asking few questions to Tay
Catalino related to wood vinegar.
It’s our 8th day in our work immersion but it’s our 2nd day in the field of
Wood Vinegar. We go at wood vinegar together with the group of Brenn. They go
back at wood vinegar because they're going to finish their last day. We arrived at
Tay Catalino's farm loudly because we're so many. The group of Brenn and also
our group collect the parts of coconut leaves where it’s used as a fuel for the
wood vinegar. Me, April, Wilfredo, Red, Kurt, Isabel, Mylene, Greselle and Mercel
roam around at Tay Catalino's Greenhouse while lecturing about all his plants
there. He also introduce about the Pechoy (the Chinese Pechay). Tay Catalino
told us to harvest it, and then we cook it for our lunch.
Today is our last day in the field of Wood Vinegar and the last day of our
work immersion. Were so happy because finally it is going to end, but eventually
were sad because we will miss it. Before we officially end it, we arrive at Tatay
Catalino farm and do our daily routine for producing wood vinegar. We collect
and chop coconut leaves, stuck to the side of the chamber, and change the
water if it’s too hot.
Afterthat, Wilfredo and I harvest the Wood Vinegar itself. We also harvest
the fermented malunggay juice produce by the group of Cris Cabalfin. We don't
know the process of producing fermented juice because we don’t have much
time but Tatay Catalino already lectured us.
In the afternoon we have our thanksgiving party for our facilitators and
supervisors. We give gifts to them as a sign of gratitude and the unending
guidance they give to us throughout the 9 work immersion days.
Experience is the best teacher. We end our day with a big smile to our
faces and the learning’s we will never be forget.
