ELIGIBILITY AND REQUIREMENTS

FOR THE CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION (CPE) PROGRAM


TRAINING GRANT

(Research in Social Studies Education)

This ten-day Continuing Professional Education Program aims to help Social


Studies faculty members with a research concept paper, proposal, or with readily
available research data with the goal of producing a publishable research paper. Higher
Education Institutions (HEIs) may nominate faculty who meet the following eligibility
criteria:

 A Filipino citizen of not more than 45 years old


 Licensed professional teacher from any HEI in the Philippines provided that only
one (1) from each HEI shall be admitted in case of several applications
 Permanent appointment in either government or private HEI with at least two (2)
years of experience in teaching Social Studies courses
 With related baccalaureate degree (e.g. BSE Social Studies, AB Political
Science, etc.) and preferably with graduate degree in Social Studies Education or
allied fields
 In good health and of good moral character
 Demonstrates strong academic record and preferably with research concept,
proposal, and/or with research data for ongoing research study
 Must pass the required admission process in the program

Grant Privileges

 Training Provision* (This includes 10-day board meals, accommodation, and


training kit)
 Transportation of participants may be shouldered by the sending HEIs.

 Application Letter
 Curriculum Vitae (see attached template)
 Certified True Copy of Transcript of Records
 Capsule Concept Paper/Research Proposal on Social Studies Education
(see attached template)
 Endorsement Letter duly signed by the head of sending HEI
(see attached template)
 Medical Certificate (within the last six (6) months coverage prior to application)

Capsule Concept Paper/Proposal Template

CAPSULE CONCEPT PAPER/PROPOSAL


(adapted from the Faculty of Education, University of the Philippines Open University)

This is a coherent essay of not more than 2,500 words that demonstrates the applicant’s
capability to pursue original research in the field of Social Studies Education based on accurate
understanding of the research techniques and concepts appropriate to the study. The capsule
proposal should be written in English and is satisfactory in its technical presentation and structure.
I. Title/Topic
This should be within the field of
study (i.e. Social Studies Education),
feasible, and makes a distinct contribution
to the field of study.
II. Context and Rationale
This should present a brief
background of the study.
III. Aims of the Study/Research
Question or Problem
This should provide a clear
statement of the aims of the
study/research question or problem.

IV. Significance and Scope of the


Study
This should put emphasis on
how the study will make a
contribution to professional and
academic knowledge of the topic.
V. Research Design and
Methodology

This should discuss the research


design including the selection of the
research participants, the data
collection methods, the methods of
data analysis, and the ethical issues
involved and how these would be
addressed.
VI. Literature Cited (optional)

This should include all cited


materials in the capsule proposal.
This part is not included in the word
count.
Overall, the capsule proposal should articulate a thesis or “argument” that will show
that it is worthy and can contribute to knowledge, theory, methodology, policy and
practice in Social Studies Education.
