Description

Time dependent analysis of a simply supported beam with a single tendon. The duration of the first stage is 30
days, the shuttering is removed on 7th day and the DL & PS loads are applied on the first day of construction
stage. The beam is jacked from one (left, Node 1) end.

Calculation of Jacking Force

Maximum Jack Pressure shall not exceed 90% of 0.1% Proof Stress. 0.1% of proof stress shall be taken as
equal to 85% of minimum UTS.
Proof Stress is the one that will cause a permanent deformation

Loss Calculation
Friction Loss

Slip Loss
Relaxation Loss
Short Term Relaxation
The loss of Pre-stress due to relaxation is related to the
jacking force in the cables. The recommended value of
jacking force should be in the range of 0.5fpu to 0.8fpu as
per Clause 8, Page 11, IRC:18 - 2000.

Long Term Relaxation

For calculation of stress in service condition long term relaxation loss value occuring
at about 0.5x10e6, hours shall be considered, which is 3times the1000hrs value.(IRC:18, CL.11.4)

Strain
Maturity at 7days
Maturity at 30days
The creep straiin for the corresponding maturity of concrete as per IRC:18-2000 ; Table 2 ; Page 16
For 66% maturity = 6.54 e-4 /10mpa
For 100% maturity = 4.00 e-4 /10mpa
Net strain = 6.54e-4 - 4.0e-4 = 2.04e-4/10mpa
Loss due to creep

Long Term creep loss

Shrinkage Loss
The shrinkage strain for the correxponding maturity of concrete as per IRC 18-2000; Table 3 ; Page 17
Strain due to residual shrinkage for 7 days = 3.5e-4
Strain due to residual shrinkage for 28 days = 1.9e-4
Net strain = 3.5e-4 - 1.9e-4
