Congress, 1995

Dear 1995 Congress Participants:

As qnce again we gather for the Annual Religious Education Congress, our hearts
and minds are lifted up to our loving God. We pause to listen to God's Word
proclaimed during our days of Congress, to allow that Word to take deep root in our
lives, and to allow that Word to shape our lives as active disciples of Jesus Christ.

This year's Congress theme, Passion for Justice, is highlighted in the Scriptures for
the Sunday of our Congress. Jesus calls us to accept one another as brothers and Dear Friends,
sisters, to extend ourselves in loving patience to each other, and to see others as far
more important than ourselves. Some of the refrains that will surround us this
weekend are: "the Lord is kind and merciful," "love your enemy and do good," and I am delighted to welcome all of you to another wonderful celebration of our

Dear Catechist,

Let me welcome you to Congress 1995 where each of us will be able. to gain valuable
enrichment for our on-going personal adult religious education and formation.
a
In choosing your workshops may I suggest that you ask: Which workshops will
contribute to my personal spiritual enrichment and to the challenge to grow as a catechist?
As you may have noticed, the Congress workshops are not coded for recertification as in
previous years. We will now consider all workshops, keynotes and liturgies as a valuable
recertification experience for a catechist. We ask that catechists read descriptions and search out
workshops that meet their particular catechetical ministry needs; i.e. early childhood, elementary,
junior high, Confirmation, youth, young adult and adult.
In your role as catechist and in light of this year's Congress theme, uPassion for Justice", may your
experience at Congress '95 fill each of you with passion and love for God's message of justice, in order
to create a world more fit for living, more just and more humane.

Sincerely,
Jna
Monica A. Hughes
Associate Director/
Consultant for Catechist Formation
