Our Pledge and Petition

to Protect the Earth

O ur Earth is being polluted with garbage. Our rivers and oceans are littered with plastics, among others.
As responsible citizens of our planet Earth, our common home, and as concerned members of the
Marist School, Marikina City, we pledge to minimize the use of plastics by:
▪ always bringing reusable bags when shopping
▪ carrying our own reusable bottles
▪ skipping plastic straws when ordering drinks
▪ properly disposing our trash
Moreover, we petition our government to ban in sari-sari stores, canteens, grocery stores,
restaurants, and malls the following single-use plastics:
▪ straw
▪ cups and lids
▪ plates and cutlery (forks, spoons, and knives)
These plastics are harmful to humans, marine life, and the ecosystem. They add garbage and
pollution to our Earth and oceans.
As we make our pledge and the above petition, we pray with Pope Francis in Laudato Si’ (no. 246)
to our Creator God:
Bring healing to our lives,
that we may protect the world and not prey on it,
that we may sow beauty,
not pollution and destruction.
