FTTx Planner
Version: 3.0.0
2. Assumptions
User has a basic knowledge of QGIS program (working with a map, run processing
scripts/tools),
User has a theoretical knowledge of methods of planning passive optical networks,
Planner FTTH uses public roads data available on OpenStreetMap server,
Planner FTTH is able to use any civil infrastructure line network, representing cable
route line layer.
3. Requirements
a) QGIS version 2.18.14 or later 2.18.x (QGIS 3 is not supported)
b) properly installed GRASS GIS 7 package
c) installed python library scipy
d) installed python library openpyxl (required only for report generation)
e) installed Scipy Point Clustering plugin
f) installed QuickOSM plugin
g) enabled Processing plugin
Next chapters introduce actions, which should be done in each process step. Steps are made
by wizards as models in Processing Toolbox.
You can find steps 1-3 in Processing Toolbox → Models → FTTH/GPON planning wizard and the next
steps are in Processing Toolbox → Gni Planner FTTH → FTTH/GPON planning wizard.
b) Execute first step “[step 1] create GPON demand and route line from OSM”
f) The result of two steps is prepared data set containing clustered address points with
an numeric attribute of demand for fiber.
g) Execute third step „[step 3] high level design GPON network”. Input layers are the
outputs from the last step and layer with OLT location. In the field: Potential node
places you can add potential nodes location if you have them. These can be manholes
or poles.
The field: Path cost per unit allows you to indicate a field with the cost of a path.
c) Remember that this two layers are persistent and store in DB the data from all
planning processes. Previous layers are only temporary. If they overlap and you want
to see only specific of them, you can apply a filter using the WorkContext name or
version.
d) After the step 4, in vw_pricing_link view objects will be created which show the
semgents with information on the quantities of fibres used and the fibres split. They
contain the proposed locations for placement of splitters.
b) In the first tab, named by work context, there is a set of all created data in the work
context.
c) In tab named “serving area” there is list of demand points assigned to “final nodes”
(serving point).
d) In tab named „cost_distribution” there is data allowing to count/compare final nodes
connection costs.
e) In tab named “splitter” there is information on splitters
f) In tab named “loss” there is table of fiber track attenuation
You can also generate this report using a wizard "[step] Generate report". You can
save it if you need it.
4. Sheets have been created and will be printed later. To do this open ‘Composer Manager’.
There is a map template on an A4 sheet on a scale of 1:1000.
For users, whose the short instruction of basic process usage presented in the documentation
is not sufficient, we suggest an on-line training of capabilities of our FTTx network planning tools. The
training includes:

The Geospatial Network Inventory system enables telecom operator to efficiently and
optimally manage its network inventory within normal network activities. The result of planning steps
is used by further operations such as:
Detailed network design for outside and inside plant with full cost estimation and
design documentation generation
Network build with bill of material generation including all resources and services
used utilized
Network infrastructure sharing via lease contracts on whole levels of network (civil
infrastructure, cables, fibers, equipment, collocation space, transmission services)
Service delivery on B2C and B2B markets with install documentation generation
Network maintenance with planned and incidental field works supported by SLA
contracts
