3. 3. Stress • Stress is simply a reaction to a stimulus that disturbs our physical or mental
equilibrium. In other words, it's an omnipresent part of life. A stressful event can trigger the
“fight-or-flight” response, causing hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol to surge through
the body.
4. 4. Stress as Stimulus,Response and Relational • Aside from being a reaction( or response)
Stress is also a stimulus as well as a relational condition between persons and the situations
they are in ( Feist and Rosenberg 2012). • Stress as a response is the way the body reacts
to challenging situations. This involves the interactions between the hormones, glands and
nervous system where the adrenal gland drives the production of cortisol or better known as
“Stress hormone”
5. 5. Health Stress • Stressors have a major influence upon mood, our sense of well-being,
behavior, and health. Acute stress responses in young, healthy individuals may be adaptive
and typically do not impose a health burden. However, if the threat is unremitting, particularly
in older or unhealthy individuals, the long-term effects of stressors can damage health.
