Changi Water
Reclamation Plant
The Changi Water Reclamation Plant is the cornerstone
of the first phase of the Singapore Deep Tunnel Sewerage
System (DTSS). Via a new subterranean sewage tunnel
having a 3.6–6 m diameter the waste water is delivered
to Changi WRP over a distance of about 40 kilometers
from various parts of Singapore. Sited on 34 hectares of
reclaimed land, the plant features a state-of-the-art, com-
pact and covered used water treatment facility designed to
treat 800,000 cubic meters of used water per day.
The heart of the Changi WRP are 20 decanters type
CA 1036 Westfalia Separator varipond for sludge thick-
ening and 10 decanters type CA 1035 for sludge dewater-
ing. In addition to these gigantic scroll type centrifuges,
peripheral gear such as pumps, conveyor units, flocculent
stations, and switching units were supplied from GEA
Westfalia Separator. Changi WRP provides a high stand-
ard of treatment to used water before it is discharged
through the deep sea outfalls or reclaimed to NEWater.

Pumps – Level 87 m
Transfer pumps for dilute sludge and digested sludge
are located on this level. The capacity of each dilute
sludge transfer pump is 2000m³/h.
Thickening Discharge – Level 99 m
The 99 m level is directly below the 20 thickening
decanter centrifuges CA 1036 Westfalia Separator
varipond. On this level the centrate pipes, the screw
conveyors, the odours air system and the electrical
cabling are located.

Thickening Decanter – Level 104 m
The 104 m level with 20 decanter centrifuges CA 1036
Westfalia Separator varipond for primary sludge and
waste activated sludge thickening. Three of these decan-
ters are used as well for recuperative thickening. In this
mode the digested sludge is thickened to increase the
solids concentration in the digesters.

Dewatering Decanter – Level 135 m
The 135 m level with 10 decanter centrifuges type
CA 1035 for maximum dewatering of digested sludge.
