1. Made from: shampoo bottles, cleaners, disposable restaurant containers, milk covers and water bottles.
2. How: using waste plastic, different types of polymers are combined with mixing agents to build heat
resistant, unbreakable, anti-microbial and anti-skidding tiles.
For the tile making process the plastic waste is further segregated into three parts — toys, disposable
cutlery, chairs, and tables, which consist of Polypropylene (PP); PET bottles, their caps, and crates
are made of High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE); while the Low-Density Polyethylene makes up milk
pouches. These are then shredded into millions of pieces, some bland some boisterous. Once
shredded, the plastic is sent for washing, drying, mixing (with granules that help in making the tiles
anti-microbial), extruding. Mixers are added to generate pellets that are then heated and cast into
moulds. The tiles can be used for pavements, jogger paths.
It takes 3-4 tonnes of plastic waste to manufacture approximately 10,000 tiles every day.
During the process of manufacturing of thee tiles, no hazardous gases or harmful chemical
substances are released. The processes used to manufacture HDCP tiles are environment friendly and
have been approved by necessary pollution control authorities.
