A.1. Preparatory Activities: Drill-Basic Addition Facts using the
window card. (T- will flash the number sentence using window
cards).

2. Review (T- will present the puzzle game).

1. Motivation: Story Problem


This is Omar. He collected 234 empty bottles on
Saturday and 23 on Sunday. Can you tell the number of
bottles he collected for 2 days.

Ask the following questions:

1. Who collected empty bottles? Omar collected the empty


bottles.
2. What did Omar collect? Omar collected empty bottles.
3. When did he collect the empty bottles? Omar collected the
empty bottles on Saturday and Sunday.
4. How many empty bottles did Omar collect on Saturday? Omar
collected 234 empty bottles on Saturday.
5. How many bottles did he collect on Sunday? Omar collected 23
bottles on Sunday.
6. Can you tell the number of empty bottles Omar collected for
two days? Omar collected 257 empty bottles for two days.

2.Presentation of the Lesson

a. Teacher will present cut-out pictures of bottles.

Then pupils will identify the picture that shows the empty
bottles that Omar collected on Saturday and on Sunday.

b. Teacher will present to the class the place value chart.


Then discuss to the class the short method of adding
numbers.

Processing the solutions and answer


In 234 what is the value of 4? 3? 2? The value of 4 is ones, 3 is
tens and 2 is hundreds.
In 23 what is the value of 3? 2? The value of 3 is ones and 2 is
tens.
What are the numbers in the tens place? The number in tens
place are 3 and 2.
What are the numbers in the ones place? The number in ones
place are 4 and 3.
What are the numbers in the hundreds place? The number in
hundreds place is 2.

234 = 200+30+4
+23 = 20+3

3.Reinforcing Activities ( T- will present the number sentence problem on


the board then pupils will solve on their seats then after give their
correct answer by solving it on the board).

We add first the ones, tens and hundreds.
We can add numbers using expanded form or short method.
