About the project
Food wastage management System
Indians waste as much food as the whole of United Kingdom consumes – a statistic
that may not so much indicative of our love of surfeit, as it is of our population. Still,
food wastage is an alarming issue in India. Our street and garbage bins, landfills have
sufficient proof to prove it.

Weddings, canteens, hotels, social and family functions, households spew out so much
food. According to the United Nations Development Programme, up to 40% of the
food produced in India is wasted. About 21 million tonnes of wheat are wasted in India
and 50% of all food across the world meets the same fate and never reaches the needy.
In fact, according to the agriculture ministry, Rs. 50,000 crore worth of food produced
is wasted every year in the country.

The topic that I’ve selected is the Food Wastage Management which is useful for NGO
and social workers. The primary idea to choose this project was the reduce food
wastage in restaurants and special occasions like marriage, birthday party. So, I
thought out to make something which can be innovative and at the same time very
useful for community as well to decrease malnutrition.

So, I’m going to reduce food waste worldwide by helping stores sell their surplus food
through my website

Work flow of Food wastage management website:

User can be categorized into 3 major types, customer (normal user), restaurant user
and NGO user. First of all, each user has to sign up and make an account after that they
can login and logout from session anytime. In 2 ways NGO can get food either by
restaurant or via customer. If restaurant is ready to donate food at particular time then
it can put a request on website and in meantime NGO can accept it, if requirements of
food are appropriate. After accepting request in limited time and collecting food from
that restaurant, reward (token) will be given to restaurant. If any customer sees needy
people or leftover food in any events like birthday party, marriages, etc. and wants to
donate then he/she can send location of that site and request them.
Tools and Technologies used for development purpose are:
• ASP.NET and C#: ASP.NET is a great framework to use when developing web
sites and web applications. It is reliable, fast, easy to use that’s why I’ve used
.NET technology for whole website development.

• Jquery: I’ve used javascript to make dynamic webpages in my website, and to

make it easier I’ve used Jquery in my website

• Bootstrap: I’ve used bootstrap for designing and styling the layout of my
website.

• DataBase connectivity using SQL: To display and store data of users and NGO
I’ve used database in my website.
Design for Performance and Safety:
Performance
A) Page load time
One of the important factors that measure a website’s performance is the
page loading time. In ASP.NET, this can be achieved using the application
class, that act as an entry point for all incoming requests.

B) Requests per second

The Key metric in this case is request per second, which typically results
from specification of:
1) Number of users per hour.
2) Number of concurrent users in a given time window.
C) Throughput

The throughput is then calculated by dividing the file size by the time to get
the throughput in megabits, kilobits, or bits per second.

Safety
For social safety, if food request is not accepted by the NGO in particular time
then this request will be rejected as the food quality will be drained. For security
concern, captcha code is used so that web scrapping, and other illegal attacks
cannot take place on this website and user’s data will be safe. For Financial issue,
token system is adapted in the website so that if any NGO accepts request from
restaurant then some amount of money will be deducted till the food delivery
takes place. After that money will be recredited in the same account.
