Lesson Idea Name: Bald eagles

Content Area Addressed: Zoology

Grade Level(s): High School

Content Standard Addressed: SZ1. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information

to derive the phylogeny of animal taxa using informative characteristics. a. Construct an
explanation of the relationships among animal taxa using evidence from morphology,
embryology, and biochemistry

Technology Standard Addressed: 2. Design and Develop Digital Age Learning

Experiences and Assessments Teachers design, develop and evaluate authentic
learning experiences and assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resources
to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills and
attitudes identified in the ISTE Standards.

Lesson idea implementation:

The teacher will go over the directions. The students are to follow the teacher’s
directions to the Journey North website. The students will be assigned a specific animal
and fill out the given worksheet. The students will fill in the worksheet concerning their
assign animal. The student should complete the worksheet by the end of the day.

The students will be assessed on their completion of the assignment. To extend the
student learning, the next day the student will present their findings. The lesson will wrap
up with the students turning in their worksheet. Feedback from the teacher will be verbal
assistance throughout the lesson.

Reflective Practice:

The students would get practice researching content required by the standards. Journey
North would have impacted their student learning because of two things. First the
students would be introduced to the resource. It is a free resource the student can use
form here on out. Second the student would have practiced obtaining, evaluating, and
communicating information to derive the phylogeny of animal taxa using informative
characteristics

I could use this as an introduction. An extend to the lesson could be to have the student
research the characteristics of the animal’s behavior in a future season. The end of the
lesson there could be a formative assessment using Kahoot student response system.
