The simple answer is “over 4 hours a day.”

According to comScore’s 2017 Cross Platform Future in Focus report, the average American adult (18+)
spends 2 hours, 51 minutes on their smartphone every day.

That’s about 86 hours a month! This might be a record, but growth has certainly flattened out over the
last year-and-a-half.

Along with their books and school supplies, most high school and college students -- and many younger
students -- make their daily trip to school with their trusty smartphone. Mobile phones connect students

Smartphone separation anxiety is set to become an increasingly widespread problem, researchers


say.The term, which is also known as “nomophobia”, is used to describe the feeling of panic or stress
some people experience when they’re unable to access or use their mobile phone.According to new
research, it has little to do with being unable to make or receive phone calls.Instead, scientists from the
City University of Hong Kong and the Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul say it’s because smartphones are
so advanced and personal to us that they’ve actually become an extension of ourselves.
