President Rodrigo Roa Duterte delivered his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) last Monday, July

22, 2019 in
front of 3,000 lawmakers and guests at Batasang Pambansa Complex, Quezon City.

This year’s SONA highlighted the President’s achievement on the entirety of his term and his current plans for the last
three years of his service. Duterte delivered his speech in the usual lecture-mode manner. His speech started at 5:15 PM
and concluded at 6:49 PM, longer than the originally declared 45-minute speech.

As a usual Duterte-thing, He still emphasized the main problem of our country which is the illegal drugs and corruption,
but somehow he promised to continue fighting until the end of his term. He wants to insist the death penalty for crimes
related to drugs and plunder.

Duterte also revealed the way some government officials work. "We in government talk too much, act too little, and too
slow. We are long on rhetoric but short of accomplishments." He even joked that an earthquake (pertaining to “The Big
One”) should strike the Session Hall at that moment since they are complete for that certain time.

PRRD also stated some of his environmental views. He mentioned the rehabilitation made for Boracay Island, which was
now "restored close to its original pristine state." He added that it's just the beginning. He also plans to declare the
whole of the island a land reform program and give piece by piece to the people of Aetas. On Manila Bay rehabilitation,
the administration will relocate informal settlers along the waterways and shut down establishments that continue to
pollute and poison the waters which I think is the best way to save the nature.

One of the things that I wanted him to mention is his views about the recent West Philippine Sea dispute. He still
reinstate that he wants no war against Chinese. "I am not ready or inclined the occurrence of more destruction, more
widows, more orphans, should war even on a limited scale, breaks out," said Duterte.

Duterte also praised DepEd Secreatary Leonor Briones as more Filipino learners are receiving basic education with over
27 million enrollees from kinder to senior high school. He also stated the approval of the proposed project on National
Academy for Sports for high school students. But still urged Congress to pass the National Defense Act and revive the
mandatory ROTC.

In conclusion, things can be done little by little and one at a time but for President Rodrigo Duterte he serves about 104
million Filipinos so he can’t just rely on that quote, because a little thing he done or even one decision he makes creates
a big impact on our nation.

"A comfortable life for the Filipinos in the next three years. I dream the Philippines better than I grew up with," Duterte
ended his speech.

As regular student, I’m putting my trust on the chief executive of our country for the next three years.
