Universal Design for Learning

-The video can have text for visual learners
-The video has images to support the words being said
-Transcriptions are available for audio files
-Software has a help button
-Software has labels for the buttons to tell you what they do
Lesson idea implementation:
The standard addressed in the lesson focuses on national holidays and the people they celebrate. The
teacher will play the audio file created to introduce the lesson to the students. The students will watch the
video created to get a little background information about Martin Luther King Jr. The project will take about
an hour. The students learning will be summatively assessed by grading their final project against a rubric. The
students will be expected to create their own video highlighting on Martin Luther King’s life and how he
impacted society. The students will be able to use pictures to convey their message and then record their
voices explaining what they learned about Martin Luther King Jr.
To extend the lesson, the students will be able to include text describing the images used. The final project
will be used for students to post online and share with other students what they learned. The videos
differentiate learning by including visual and audio representation of the information learned. The students
will share their videos with other students in the class and students online to receive feedback and questions

that they will respond to with an audio recording. The lesson will be concluded by having the students share
their video with the class. The students will receive feedback about their work through the rubric.

Importance of technology:
The use of multimedia is critical to the project because it gives students a change from the typical paper
pencil projects. The multimedia project can be shared and reach a wider audience by appealing to visual and
auditory learners. The project could be changed to be completed without the technology, but it would not
have a high Loti level or blooms level. Students will use Audacity and iMovie.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy:

Some possible issues that may arise with internet safety is the students sharing their work online for the
public to see. The students will need permission forms signed to share their work online and change their
names on their work to pseudonyms to protect their identity. To minimize risks the teacher will review
internet safety with the students and closely monitor their internet activity.
Reflective Practice:
The activities created will impact student learning by appealing to more learning styles. The activity is hands on and
incorporates some creativity for the students to express themselves and their view on the material. The students learn
new knowledge of a topic and how to operate a new software. To further extend the lesson, the students will be asked
to add additional features to their video such as music or text and have less scaffolding throughout the lesson. The use of
Audacity for video files and blog sites or YouTube to publish their work will further enhance the project.
