Home Base
Parents and students always have access to grades! There are never any surprises. Students will
be provided with time to access Home Base during Science class at regular intervals to monitor
their grades. Grades will be updated frequently.
Grading
In grades 6-8 students earn numeric grades on their report cards. WCPSS employs a grading
scale consistent with guidelines from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and
based on the following values:
• A = 90-100
• B = 80-89
• C = 70-79
• D = 60-69
• F = < 60
Weighted Grades
Home Base includes a statement about how tests/projects, classwork grades, and homework
grades are weighted. All core classes-language arts, math, science & social studies- are as
follows (per WCPSS guidelines):
Homework = 10%
Classwork/Quizzes = 30%
Tests/Projects = 60%
Homework Policy
The Wake County Board of Education recognizes the importance of homework in supplementing
classroom instruction and furthering the goals of the educational program. Homework reinforces
learning and fosters independence, responsibility, and self-direction. The research-
based guidelines for homework are 90 minutes per day for 6-8th grades. Homework may not be
submitted past its due date.
Absences Policy
If a student is absent, they have the equivalent of the number of days they were absent to make
up the assignment.
Bathroom Policy
Students will utilize their agendas and are allowed to use their bathroom passes 5 times per
week. It is at the teacher’s discretion as to when they are allowed to go during a class period.
