Criteria A
Explains and justifies the need for a solution to a problem
for a client/ target audience:-
The problem faced by many civil engineers are that they
mastered with the techniques of laying a good foundation for
the house but are unable to execute exactly what the
customer’s demand for the INTERIOR of the house are. As
a result of this many individual house owners or even multi
story building owners are now not satisfied with the way the
interior of their house is constructed. Some of them are built
in a way that the rooms have insufficient space or some have
too much empty space that is unwanted by tenants.
Recently, my uncle has taken up a project to build a house
for himself and has approached me to make a plan for all the
rooms in the house. He does not want improper planning in
the availability of space in the rooms and wants them to be
sufficient enough and a good looking architecture.
Therefore, I have decided to make a 3D design where it will
include all the details concerning the interior that will need
to be kept in mind while constructing. A digital design of the
room plans could be of a better use than normally doing
with pencil and paper which usually engineers find difficult
to work out. Problem:-Unplanned Rooms in a house. My
client is My Uncle and my target audiences are the civil
engineers who are looking for a 3D designing of the interior
fundamentals of a house. Solution: Make a 3D design of the
rooms.
Identify and prioritize primary and secondary research needed to
develop a solution to the problem.

representation of a 3-
dimensional object or
shape.
2 How to make a 3D design? Using modeling
software.

Analyses a range of existing products that inspire a solution to the

problem in detail.
There are some designs which are similar to mine so I would like to
compare it here. The three designs I would be analysing with mine are
Samsung 3D Product Design(U-arm 60), Tesla Powerwall and Nokia-
500(Wi-Fi router). Though the products compared are not related but
the basic fundamental that is essential for a 3D design anywhere
remains the same. The various analysing methods that are proposed
to use are SWOT, De Bono’s hat or Fish bone method. I have chosen
swot because by using this I can identify the strengthness, weakness,
opputunities and threats that are present in these designs. But I am
only going to identify the internal factors such as strengths and
weaknesses and leave out the external factors such as oppurtunities
and threats.

Design Name: Samsung 3D

Product Design(U-arm 60)
Strengths Weaknesses
Precise and smooth Real features cannot
movement be felt
Features well Not appealing at the
executed first look
Not user friendly
-

Design Name: Tesla Powerwall

Strengths Weaknesses
Perfect in showing Text size
the intention of what inappropriate
the developer wants
to create
Superior level of Presence of
detail unwanted
information as well
Mathematical detail -
well excuted
Appealing to the -
senses
Design Name: Nokia 500(Wi-fi router)
Strengths Weaknesses
Features well Irrevalent graphics
executed
Superior level of Unwanted audio
detail
Mathematical detail -
well excuted
User friendly -

Now, after thouroughly analyzing all these designs I can tell pros and cons of my
designs. My design has many pros such as it will be demonstrating the features
well, superior level of mathematical dimensions in each asset of the room will
be included and will focus only on the intention of what the consturctor what to
design inside the house. The design also has cons such as will it appeal to the
target audience group or atleast the client?, will it be user friendly? etc.

Develops a detailed design brief, which summarizes the analysis of

relevant research.
