I. INTRODUCTION

The world has changed a lot and this change is brought by the so-called Technology. This is the same
reason why humans are now living in the so-called digital world. People are no longer living in the traditional way
of life. Instead, they are surrounded by the many Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools that
resulted in the change people are experiencing now. People can’t live without their cellphones because of the
convenience brought by it to their lives as far as communication is a concern. The entertainment industry has used
many ICT tools available such as high-tech gadgets, recording studios, and much more to improve their craft.
Students go the internet shops rather than staying inside a library to do their research. Businessmen have already
tapped the power of the World Wide Web (WWW) to increase their sales and be available 24/7 to their clients.
Because of these trend in the field of ICT, even schools or universities in the country both in rural and urban places
around the globe, have taken the first step to be a part of the digital community through the creation of their student
web portal.
Web portals provide a single point of access to a variety of content and core services, and ideally offer a
single sign-on point. Portals give you a managed online experience, and can be particularly helpful as a start and
return point for those new to the web. Portal content is dynamically managed through databases, application
windows, and sometimes cookies. Portals often include calendars and to-do lists, discussion groups, announcements
and reports, searches, email and address books, and access to news, weather, maps, and shopping, as well as
bookmarks. Web portals often organize information into channels, customizable page containers where specific
information or an application appears. Channels make it easy to locate information of interest by categorizing
content
Portals offer advantages over home pages because they can offer user-specific, customized views. For
example, a university's web portal could offer customized, specific content available to you based on your roles
(e.g., faculty, student, staff, and administrator). Roles help the portal determine your privileges for reading,
searching, updating, adding channels, and personalizing content. The portal uses the information stored in the roles
to offer the appropriate content and service choices. You can then create further, more specific content organization
by selecting from the personalized material and services, thus making the portal work the way you do.
The research will focus on the development of the Online Student Web Portal with a ledger for
miscellaneous for the Senior High Student of Great Eastern Institute Tarlac City. Moreover, the researcher deemed it

necessary to develop the said online student portal for the following reasons: to lessen time and resources of
distributing a report of grades to students, and viewing miscellaneous payment status.

II. PROJECT CONTEXT

The Great Eastern Institute is one of the fastest growing High Schools located in La Paz Tarlac City. It has
been one of the Private Schools here in La Paz Tarlac City that has maintained its status in terms of population and
still growing. To date, there are more or less one thousand enrolled Senior High School Student, twenty-two (22)
faculties, and one (1) I.T expert.
The proposed system is related to student portal, the ledger for miscellaneous fees. The Great Eastern Institute Online
Student Portal with a ledger for Miscellaneous will give an easy work on the school and also for the students. In
today’s generation students who want to view their miscellaneous payment status, and view their grades in the portal
can use this proposed system. The data recorded by the system will be accessed by the faculty, chosen by the school,
particularly the business clerks/ registrar. They are allowed to view and print the reports of grades and receipts of the
miscellaneous fee. In contrary the access of the students who log in is limited.The system also has a user-friendly
interface that helps the faculty and the students for easier navigation.

III. PURPOSE AND DESCRIPTION


The purpose of this study is to lessen the time and resources of distributing a report of grades to Students and
viewing miscellaneous payment status. This Online Student portal with a ledger for a miscellaneous fee will be
made for the Senior High Student in Great Eastern to give information regarding their grades and payment status.
The beneficiaries of this web-based system will be the faculty members, senior high student of Great Eastern
Institute, and the cashier, because student can view their payment status for miscellaneous fees and they can also
monitor their grades, while the faculty members can post grades for their student thru the portal, and the cashier can
monitor the payment status of every student enrolled in this school
For Faculty members, it will be easy to encode and distribute grades using the system. It is used to easily view
the list of enrolled students, schedules of subjects to be taught,
For Cashier, it will be easy for them to monitor any balance from the students. The cashier can notify the
students using the E-ledger.
Students, can easily view grades whenever or wherever using any mobile phones or computers with the use of
Internet. The students can use the E-ledger to view their outstanding balance online.

IV. OBJECTIVES
The main objective is to design and develop a functional online student portal with a ledger for miscellaneous fees
of the senior high school student of Great Eastern Institute.

V. SCOPE AND LIMITATION


The main focus of this web-based system is to help the senior students and faculty members to lessen time and
resources every giving report of grades, it will help students to see their grades and view their miscellaneous payment
status even if they are at home. The user needs a stable internet connection and any kind of PDA compatible for web
browsing. For Faculty members they can easily distribute a report of grades to Students thru Student portal. The
proposed system requires correct username and password to provide security and prevent unauthorized.

The proposed system is limited to the senior student of Great Eastern Institute. This project is a Web and Mobile
Based System that can only be accessed with the help of Internet connection. It focuses on the Online Student Portal
with Ledger for Miscellaneous Fee.
