The first concert in July will be a tribute to
the female composers of the Baroque.
Held on 3 July (9.30pm) in Galileo Cul-
tural Centre, it will feature Italian soprano
Roberta Invernizzi, who has gathered
a group of friends to pay tribute to crea-
tors like Isabella Leonarda and Élisabeth
Jacquet de la Guerre. Classical music –
but this time, contemporary classical– will
also be the focus of the concert that the
Kronos Quartet from San Francisco, one
of the world’s most acclaimed string quar- 1
tets, will give on the 16th in Pilar García
Peña Auditorium, in Hortaleza (9.30pm).
The 30th will feature the Cuarteto Qui-
roga, one of the new European genera-
tion’s most singular quartets, which will
perform in the auditorium in El Paraíso
Park, in San Blas-Canillejas (9pm). On 8
August (9pm), next to the entrance portico
of La Almudena Cemetery, Al Ayre Espa-
ñol will offer a selection of late 17th and
early 18th century zarzuelas and cantatas.
There will also be zarzuela, although it will
be mixed with cabaret, in the auditorium
in the Forest Park of Entrevías, in Puente
de Vallecas, on 29 and 30 August (9pm), 2

But Veranos de la Villa will also offer some
very different sounds. On 4 July (9pm) in

rap, Madrid Suena (3 de agosto, Centro
Deportivo Municipal Cerro Almodóvar, de
11 a 20:30 h), programa con muy dife-
rentes músicas, y Vivir en Videoclip. Tú,
yo, nosotris y un karaoke , propuesta muy
especial de Anto Rodríguez que no hay
que perderse (9 de agosto, Auditorio de
la plaza de Ermua en Usera, y día 21 en la
plaza Daoiz y Velarde, en Retiro).
FLAMENCO
El flamenco también estará muy presente
en esta edición de Veranos de la Villa. El
10 de julio, Arcángel acercará al Auditorio
del Parque Lineal del Manzanares (21:30
h) su Abecedario flamenco. Para esta oca-
sión el cantaor ofrecerá al público la posi-
bilidad de que elija parte del repertorio.
El día 19 el cantaor Israel Fernández,
acompañado del guitarrista Diego del
Morao, convertirá el Auditorio del parque
de la Cuña Verde de O’Donnell, en Mora-
talaz, en un auténtico tablao (21:00 h).

in Las Ventas Municipal Market on 27 July
(10am to 2pm), where the artist collective
Poderío Vital will create a song based on
the morning humming of all of the people
who get up early in the summer to travel
to work on the bus.
Here are a few more music event sugges-
tions: the Peleas Villanas, which blend
anthropology with rap, in Huerta del Obispo
Park in Villaverde (26 July, 9pm) and in the
Marta Rodríguez-Tarduchy Amphitheatre
in Fuencarral-El Pardo (28 August, 9pm);
Madrid Suena (3 August, Cerro Almodóvar
Municipal Sports Centre, 11am to 8.30pm),
a programme featuring a diverse range
of music; and Vivir en Videoclip. Tú, yo,
nosotris y un karaoke, a very special sort of
concert by Anto Rodríguez that you won’t
want to miss (9 August in the auditorium in
Plaza de Ermua, in Usera, and 21 August
in Plaza Daoiz y Velarde, in Retiro).
FLAMENCO
Flamenco will also feature heavily in this
edition of Veranos de la Villa. On 10 July,
Arcángel will perform his Abecedario fla-
menco at the auditorium in the Linear Park
of the Manzanares River (9.30pm). On this
occasion, the flamenco singer will give the
audience a chance to choose part of the
set list. On the 19th, flamenco singer Israel
Fernández, accompanied by guitarist
Diego del Morao, will turn the auditorium
in Cuña Verde de O’Donnell Park, in Mor-
atalaz, into a veritable flamenco club (9pm).
DANZA Y PERFORMANCE
Naves Matadero acoge del 12 al 14 de
julio (21:00 h) Split Flow y Holistic Stra-
ta, dos trabajos del coreógrafo y artista
visual Hiroaki Umeda, una de las figuras
más relevantes de la vanguardia escénica
japonesa. Por el mismo escenario pasará
Philippe Quesne, que estrena en Espa-
ña, del 18 al 20 de julio (21:00 h) La nuit
des taupes, una sorprendente obra en la
que siete topos gigantes aparecen en un
12 teatro tras cavar sus madrigueras. El 22 y
23 de agosto, el Pabellón de Cristal de la
Casa de Campo cede su espacio para la
puesta en escena de Imaginé cinco cuer-
pos y ninguno era el mío, una creación con
cinco bailarines que surge de la colabora-
ción entre la coreógrafa Janet Novás y las
diseñadoras de moda Zap&Buj (21:30 h).
CIRCO
La compañía Pistacatro llega aesta
edición de Veranos de la Villa con una
singular propuesta. El planteamiento
de Orquesta de Malabares (12 de julio,
Auditorio Pilar García Peña, 21:30 h) es

trabajar con las orquestas y bandas sin-
fónicas de las ciudades que visitan. En
este caso, la Banda Sinfónica Municipal
de Madrid. Una pieza de circo elegante y
12 Arcángel poética, muy sugerente. Así es Sodade,

DANCE AND PERFORMANCE ART
From 12 to 14 July (9pm), Naves Matadero
will offer Split Flow and Holistic Strata,
two pieces by choreographer and visual
artist Hiroaki Umeda, one of the key fig-
ures on Japan’s avant-garde performing
arts scene. From 18 to 20 July (9pm),
the same venue will welcome Philippe
Quesne, with the Spanish premiere of
La nuit des taupes, a surprising piece in
which seven gigantic moles end up in a
theatre when digging their burrows. On
22 and 23 August, the Glass Pavilion in
Casa de Campo Park will host the produc-
tion Imaginé cinco cuerpos y ninguno era
el mío, a creation featuring five dancers
which is the product of a collaboration
between choreographer Janet Novás
and fashion designers Zap&Buj (9.30pm).

CIRCUS
The Pistacatro troupe will also take part
in Veranos de la Villa, offering a unique
show, Orquesta de Malabares (12 July,
Pilar García Peña Auditorium, 9.30pm), in
which the troupe pairs up with symphony
bands and orchestras in the cities it vis-
its. On this occasion, its partner is the
Madrid Municipal Symphonic Band
(BSMM). An elegant, poetic and very
intriguing circus act. That’s what you’ll get
at Sodade, by Cirque Rouages, which
will delight children and adults alike on

Park, in Tetuán (9.30pm). On 25 August,
Cirque La Compagnie will take up the
baton, performing its show L’avis bidon
(9pm) in Lourdes Guadalupe y Mariano

Habrá también en Veranos de la Villa
tiempo para los deportes urbanos, con
la ya habitual Block Party en el Skate
Park de Madrid Río (5 de julio. 20:00 h),
amenizada por el grupo de rap canario
Locoplaya, y exhibiciones de calistenia
y street workout (2 de agosto, El Hoyo de
Moratalaz, 20:00 h). También desfiles de
moda, juegos para los más pequeños,
cine, una verbena animal… ¡y mucha
fiesta! El 24 de agosto en la explanada
de la calle Bailén, frente al Palacio Real,
la mítica Alcatraz “La Orquesta” hará
que nos movamos sin parar con su amplio
despliegue de estilos, desde el pasodoble
a la salsa. El 1 de septiembre el festival
estival llega a su fin con el espectácu-
lo que la coreógrafa Cuqui Jerez y el
maestro pirotécnico José Luis Jiménez
han diseñado como gran colofón (parque

in Madrid Río Park (5 July, 8pm), which
will be livened up by Canarian rap band

be fashion shows, games for children, film,
an outdoor Animal Party… and a whole

Comienza el verano y las banderas arcoíris
desplegadas por cada rincón nos recuer-
dan que las celebraciones del colectivo
LGTBI están ya en marcha, todo un ejem-
plo de lo que es esta ciudad, abierta, cos-
mopolita y diversa. Este año las fiestas
empiezan con actividades especiales que
recuerdan que en este 2019 se cumplen
50 años de los disturbios de Stonewall, en
Estados Unidos, que dieron paso a la pri-
mera gran protesta por la reivindicación del
colectivo y a importantes manifestaciones
en Nueva York.
Con este aniversario en mente, la progra-
mación se inicia el día 1, con una nueva
edición de Madrid SUMMIT en la Casa
de América, en la que se debatirán temas
sobre los derechos LGTBI. El miércoles
día 3 toda la atención recaerá en la plaza
de Pedro Zerolo, en el barrio de Chueca,
uno de los principales escenarios de las
fiestas, donde tendrá lugar el pregón, a
cargo de la cantante Mónica Naranjo.
Será este el gran pistoletazo de salida de
este Orgullo, cuyo siguiente gran evento
será la divertida carrera de tacones del
día 4 en la calle Pelayo. El viernes día 5 el
escenario de la Puerta del Sol servirá para
elegir al ganador del certamen Mr. Gay
Pride España. Más de 20.000 personas
acudirán a esta gala, que celebra ya su
décimo segunda edición.
El momento más esperado es siempre la
manifestación del Orgullo, la Gay Parade
del sábado 6, con salida en Atocha (17:30
h) y final en la plaza de Colón, donde estará
situado otro de los escenarios instalados
por toda la ciudad. Las carrozas, con su
música y espectáculos, transmitirán el
mejor ambiente en la calle, en la que está

50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots in
the USA, and this year the festival will open
with special activities to commemorate
the riots, which led to the community’s
first major social protest and important
demonstrations in New York.
With this anniversary in mind, the pro-
gramme will begin on the 1st with a new
edition of Madrid SUMMIT in Casa de
América, where a debate on LGBTI rights
will be held. On Wednesday the 3rd, the
focus will be on Plaza de Pedro Zerolo in
the Chueca neighbourhood, one of the
festival’s main hubs, where the opening
speech will be given by singer Mónica

Naranjo. After the speech, which will kick
off this year’s Pride festival, the next big

event will be the high-heeled race on the
4th in Calle Pelayo. On Friday the 5th, the
winner of Mr. Gay Pride España will be
chosen on the stage in Puerta del Sol. Over
20,000 people will attend the event, now
in its 12th edition.
The most eagerly-awaited moment is

un nombre (debajo estoy yo), en el Museo
de Antropología, sobre niños y niñas trans
(pág. 28), o la presentación, el día 5 en
Intermediae, de un vídeo que es todo un
homenaje a las personas mayores LGTBI
a quienes están dedicadas las fiestas del
Orgullo de este año.

programme of concerts will open with

(19th); Keane, one of the most important
bands in English music history (20th); José

Mouse (the Spanish equivalent of the tooth
fairy) to comfort King Alfonso XIII when he
was a child and had just lost one of his milk
