Summer Project Guidelines-2019

Scope of Summer Project


The summer internship aims to offer the student a real-time experience and a competitive
advantage upon graduation. The student will have a chance to enhance his / her networking skills
and build relationships in the corporate / industry.
By the completion of the summer internship, the student should be familiar with the industry,
players, organization and be able to communicate at least one executed task / work and
learning’s he / she has been exposed to.

Institutional Mechanism to Support and Monitor Summer Training


 One faculty Guide will be allotted for each student to provide guidance during the
summer internship period.
 The evaluation will be based not only on ‘research and report orientation’ but equally on
‘practical learning’ orientation.
 Fortnightly Report to be submitted to the Concerned Faculty Guide.
 At the end of the Internship, Students are required to take company feedback in the
prescribed format & attach a copy of it with project report.

Content of the Internship Report

2) Table of Contents
Instruction: Title and subtitle patterns should be followed

3) Chapter Outline
Chapter 1 – Objectives, Scope & Limitations of the study.

Chapter 2 – Industry and company orientation


Topics to be covered: Industry overview, prominent players in the industry, brief summary of the
company, Organization framework (7s), Porter’s five forces.

Chapter 3 - Training Activities


Please select option a. or b. or a. & b. from below based on your SIP
a) Experiential projects (task oriented)
 Exposure to various functions of the organization
 Understanding the functions, observations and learning from the functions,
finding out the gaps in such functions (if any)

 Suggesting the feasible solutions to such gaps
 Application of managerial aspects learnt to the entire exercise
 Achievements during the internship (if any)
b) Research oriented projects
 Formulation of objectives,
 Emphasis on methodology,
 Primary/secondary data collection,
 Analysis of the data with the use of sophisticated statistical tool

 Express your general impressions on the internship
 Your overall appreciation and experience gained from technical and business perspective,
Benefits accrued during the internship, and any important suggestions or

Appendices
a) Attach Fortnightly Activity Report signed by the student and the company guide (Format
attached) with this report as well as send soft copy to the Faculty Guide on fortnight basis.
b) Student Feedback Form - (Format attached.)
Student should forward this form to the company supervisor. The copy of the form should be
incorporated in the project as an annexure and the original to be submitted to the program
office.
c) Students should submit one hard copy of their Internship Report within the stipulated time-
line upon completion of the internship to the Program Office. A soft copy of the report
should be sent to the faculty mentor.
d) Students should submit their contact numbers (both landline and mobile) and email ids to
their respective guides (Faculty Guide & Company Guide) and should take the contact
numbers and email ids of the guides.

Report Preparation
 The report should be typed with Times New Roman font size 12 with 1.5 spacing.
 All tables and charts should be numbered and should mention the source.
 There should be a proper table of contents with page numbers, a chart index and a table
index. Refer Point 2 of Contents of Internship Report
 Reports with emphasis on technical topics can include a glossary of technical terms.
 Students should make sure that they obtain a certificate of completion of project from the
external corporate guide.
 Students going in for a market research should get their questionnaire approved by external
guides & preferably internal guide also.
 Findings/ analyses can be presented in the form of tables, graphs and charts. Each
table/graph/chart should be given a proper heading and should be followed by its
interpretation and implication for the study.
 Students must avoid consultative statements in suggestions and recommendations. All
operational suggestions must be justified with supporting logic, statistics and information.
 Any data (financial or otherwise) that is taken directly from a secondary source should not be
included in the text of the report. Balance Sheets, P&L Accounts, Articles, etc. may be
included in the Appendices.

Note:

The actual learning and the report submitted should have a connection. The student should
be able to justify as to ‘why’ a particular content is included in the report and what were his /
her learning from the report as well as the training.

In case of information taken from any secondary sources, it is important for the students to
mention references in the report wherever required. Please also note that, plagiarism (copy
from the internet without paraphrasing) will have a negative impact on the grade.
