ABSTRACT

Babu Subitha, Asso. Prof. Thomas Rekha, Prof. J Evangeline, K R Liji.

A pre experimental study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of mint tea

on dysmenorrhea among young adults in a selected college. The objectives of the

study were to assess the pretest and posttest level of dysmenorrhea among young

adults, to find out the effectiveness of mint tea on dysmenorrhea among young adults

and to find out the association with pretest level of dysmenorrhea among young adults

and selected socio-demographic variables. One-group pretest posttest only design was

used for the study and non-probability purposive sampling technique was used to

select 30 young adults from a selected college at Allapuzha district. The conceptual

framework of the study was based on Betty Neuman’s system model (2002). Pretest

was conducted on first day of menstruation using Numerical Pain Rating Scale and

socio-demographic proforma. 100 ml of mint tea was given to the experimental group

daily for 21 days. The data were tabulated and analysed using descriptive and

inferential statistics. The mean posttest score 4.4 with SD 0.564 was significantly

lower than the mean pretest score 5.44 with SD 0.632 with a mean difference of 1.04.

The calculated 't’ value 8.6 is significant at p<0.05 with degrees of freedom 29. Thus

it was conclude that mint tea was very much useful in reducing dysmenorrhea of

young adults in the selected college. The association reveals that the null hypothesis

(H02) can be accepted and research hypothesis (H2) can be rejected. So it can be

concluded that there was no significant association with pretest level of dysmenorrhea

among young adults and selected socio-demographic variables.

Keywords: effectiveness; mint tea; dysmenorrhea; young adults; college.
