Paul told us not to think more
highly of ourselves then we ought to
think. For instance, I am an ordained
minister, but I mostly operate in the
office of a teacher. Over the years,
I’ve stayed with what I know God has
called and anointed me to do. I always
caution people to be careful that they
shouldn’t allow someone to prophesy
over them and get them out of their
anointing and God’s timing.
Many years ago, a man even tried to
convince me that I was Elijah. No, I’m
not Elijah, but I am a son of God, and I
am anointed of God to teach His Word.
I operate on the edge of some of the
ministry offices from time to time, as
the Spirit wills, but my anointing has
been in the office of a teacher for
more then 30 years. God created in
me a desire to teach the revelation of
His Word.
Happiness Is Doing
God’s Will
If you’re willing to do what God calls
you to do, God will not only create in
you the desire to do His Will, but He
will also furnish the anointing to get
the job done.

God told Israel. “If ye be willing and
obedient, ye shall eat the good of the
land…” (Isaiah 1:19)
There are some who are willing, but
have never been obedient, and there
are others who are obedient, but they
have never been willing. They drag
their feet all of the way. Both of these
individuals will be miserable in life and
will never enter into full blessings of
the promised land of God’s perfect
will.
If you are willing and obedient, you
will have confidence that God’s calling
will supply the anointing that will
guide you into His perfect will.
In Psalm 37:4, David said “Delight
thyself also in the Lord; and He shall
give thee the desires of thine heart.”
Now, you could take that two ways,
but I’m convinced that this verse is
saying: If you‘ll delight yourself in the
Lord, His Word will create the desires
in your heart that are of God. In other
words, your desires will be directed by
the Holy Spirit rather than by your own
fleshly desires.
Paul said,”…let us wait on our
ministering…” (Romans 12:7)
I believe there are some who have
billed themselves as apostles and
prophets prematurely. This may have
been what Paul had in mind when he
said that people should not think more
highly of themselves than they ought
to think.
If that kind of calling and anointing
is upon a minister, others will be aware
of it. They won’t have to advertise it.

John gives us some insight on this
matter, “Little children, it is the last
time: and as you have heard that
antichrist shall come, even now are
there many antichrists: whereby we
know that it is the last time. But ye
have an unction from the Holy One,
and ye know all things. I have not
written unto you because ye know
not the truth, but because ye know it,
and that no lie is of the truth” (1 John
2:18, 20-21)
John states that you have an unction
of the Holy One, and you have the
ability in you to know your calling. God
wants you to think highly of yourself.
But don’t be deceived into thinking
more highly of yourself then you ought
to think; but think soberly. In other
words, use some spiritual common
sense and think in line with your calling
and anointing.
“These things have I written unto
you concerning them that seduce
you. But the anointing which ye have
received of him abideth in you, and
ye need not that any man teach you:
but as the same anointing teacheth
you of all things, and is truth, and is
no lie, and even as it hath taught you,
ye shall abide in him” (1 John 2:26-27)
The anointing within you will teach
you about your calling in life. You don’t
have to have someone prophesy over
you to know what to do. However,
sometimes God will use a prophetic
word to confirm the calling that He has
already revealed to you.

But personal prophecies are not to
guide or direct your life. I think most
of us know that, but it’s good to be
reminded of these things. There are
some who have said: “Thus saith the
Lord,” when the Lord didn’t say it.
Learn to draw from the anointing
that abides in you, and you won’t be
deceived. When someone speaks a
word over you about something God
hasn’t talked to you about, and it
doesn’t bear witness with your spirit,
just forget it!
You have an anointing to know on
the inside of you …in your spirit. You
may not know it in your head, but
you will in your spirit. Draw from that
anointing by confessing daily that you
have the wisdom of God until you
know beyond any doubt what is of
God and what is of man.
James said, “If any of you lack
wisdom, let him ask…” (James
1:5) Jesus said, “…ask and ye shall
receive…” (John 16:24) John said, “…
the same anointing teacheth you of
all things…” (1 John 2:27) So draw
from that anointing. Start confessing
that you have an anointing to know,
and trust in that anointing to give you
insight.
When it is time to make decisions,
even if you don’t have any great
revelation concerning the matter, just
stop and ask yourself, “What is it that
I really feel deep down in my spirit?”
If you are sold out to God and are
willing to trust the anointing, many
times the desire you have in your
heart is the wisdom of God. It will
work for ministers and laymen alike.
A God-called business person has

 an anointing to know what to do in
business.
Not everyone is called to be a pastor,
teacher, or a public minister. There are
some who are called to be business
people. They have an anointing. If
they’ll trust in that anointing and
develop a sensitivity to it, then they
will be successful and fulfill their
calling in life!
Over the years, I’ve had as many
manifestations of the Spirit in everyday
business affairs as I have had in
spiritual things. (1 Corinthians 12:7-8)
We miss it when we think
manifestations of the Spirit and
anointings are only available
concerning spiritual matters of
ministry. You are anointed to know
God’s direction in your life. Learn to
draw from that anointing.
Stay with what God has anointed
you to do. Stay with your calling in
life. A young pastor once told me that
he wanted me to pray that he would
have the boldness of another minister.
I said to him, “You better stay with the
anointing and temperament that God
gave you. If you get the other minister’s
boldness with your anointing, it may
do more harm than good.”
Be Yourself
Don’t get caught in the trap of trying
to be someone else. This one thing
causes much frustration in the Body of
Christ. God knew you when he called
you and He anointed you accordingly.

Stay with and trust that anointing to
give direction in your life.
Don’t give up when things go wrong
and situations seem to get out of
hand. Pray in the Spirit as Paul said
in Romans 8:26-27. God wants you to
draw from His wisdom. (1 Corinthians
2:4-6)
You can learn to draw from God’s
wisdom by confessing the Word daily.
Then allow the Holy Spirit to guide and
direct you, even in small things. That
is how you develop a sensitivity to
your anointing so that it will give you
direction in life.
“A man’s heart deviseth his way:
but the LORD directeth his steps.”
(Proverbs 16:9)
The apostle Paul gives us a fitting
conclusion to this subject, “Now we
have received, not the spirit of the
world, but the spirit which is of God;
that we might know the things that
are freely given to us of God…he that
is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he
himself is judged of no man. For who
hath known the mind of the Lord, that
he may instruct him? But we have the
mind of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 2:12,
15-16)
Make a decision to be willing
and obedient to God’s calling and
experience the good of the land until
Jesus comes. n

 Goal Setting
Setting Your Course
for Fulfillment
I have always thought of goal set-
ting as a discipline that made you
work for that you wanted. Until I
attended a seminar on goal setting
a few years ago, I never set goals.
It was too much trouble! Besides
that, it made me feel guilty and
pressured!
As I participated in this seminar,
I did list the things that I wanted to
see happen in the next year and
even 5 years down the road. I did
not work consciously towards the
goals, but I had written them down
2 or 3 times. Imagine my amaze-
ment when I looked at my list 6
months later and had several of
those goals!

What I began to realize was that
I had planted a seed and it grew to
fruition!
“So is the kingdom of God, as
if a man should cast seed into the
ground; and should sleep, and rise
night and day, and the seed should
spring and grow up, he knoweth
not how.” Mark 4:26-27
The seed sprung up and I didn’t
know how it happened! My spirit
received the desire that I set to
achieve and sought the means of
fulfillment. The goals that I wrote
down set the course.
My previous experience with
setting goals felt like work….write it
down and work like crazy to make it

 happen. Not only that, but make it
happen in a certain period of time!
Imagine if we planted a garden that
way! Plant the seed and stay with
it constantly, watering, checking,
digging it up to see how it is doing
every day. More often than not,
this is how we think life works. Ever
seen the slogan, “Life is hard”? If
you believe that, it will be.
Jesus had a different idea and
taught the principle of planting
seeds. He used the analogy of a
person who plants the seed and
basically forgets about it or at least
goes about business and doesn’t
worry about it. The seed has the
power to spring forth after being
planted in the warmth of the soil.
It doesn’t matter if the seed plant-
er knows how this all works or not.
Likewise, when you write down a
desire you have, you do not need to
know how it will happen. Just like
the seed, the desire when plant-
ed on paper or spoken with your
mouth into your heart, will grow up
and manifest in your life.
Define Your Desires
When I say “define your desires”,
you probably automatically go to a
“want” list of objects or positions,
or relationships. I would like to of-
fer another option. Redefine your
want list into principle ideas. Rath-
er than “I want $XXXX.XX income
per month”, “I want to be healed of
__”, “I want a job at ___”, “I want

support from friends and family”,
which I call a want list, turn into a
desire list:
1. To walk in financial abun-
dance, having more than
enough
2. To live in divine health
3. To be in a vocation than is ful-
filling
4. To feel supported emotionally
What is the difference? If you
“want” something, you live in
“want”. Also, the “want” list is
very limiting. If you want $xxxx.xx
dollars per month, you are limit-
ing. Wanting to be healed is a goal
based on sickness. In order to “be
healed” you have to be sick first. If
you want support from friends and
family, you are indicating that is the
only source of support. How many
times have you limited the ways
God could answer your prayer?
Walking in financial abundance,
living in divine health, being in a
fulfilling vocation, and feeling emo-
tionally supported opens the door
for unlimited blessing.
What are your desires? I encour-
age you to write them down, rede-
fine them, and then commit them
to God.
“Roll your works upon the Lord
[commit and trust them wholly to
Him; He will cause your thoughts
to become agreeable to His will,

 and] so shall your plans be estab-
lished and succeed.” Proverbs 16:3

Watch in amazement, as I did, at
how God brings them to pass.
Tapping Your Hidden
Resources
“Delight thyself also in the Lord;
and he shall give thee the desires
of thine heart” Psalm 37:4
The word ‘delight’ in the scrip-
ture is often associated with wor-
ship or praise; however, the He-
brew word has a much different
meaning.
The Hebrew word here is anag,
which means ‘pliable or delicate’.
We could actually translate this
into modern usage with the word
‘flexible’.
To be “flexible” or “pliable”
opens you up to infinite quantum
possibilities. By being too specific
in just how you want things to be,
you can eliminate God’s highest
and best for your life.
For instance: What if you lost
your job at Company A and unable
to find other employment, you be-
gan to email friends about your sta-
tus. Amazingly, there is a job open-
ing at a Company B where your best
friend works! You always wanted to
work there but didn’t feel you were
qualified. Sounds like God, doesn’t
it? So you begin to confess that

the job is yours. You pray that the
interview goes well and that God
moves all obstacles so that you will
be hired. Now you are completely
focused on getting this job and no
longer pursue any other avenues
because by all appearance, this is
the one.
“There is a way that seems
right to a man and appears
straight before him, but at the
end of it are the ways of death.”
Proverbs 16:25 Amplified Version
Once you made up your mind,
you became “inflexible”. Notice it
was your mind that you made up.
There is a difference between the
reasoning mind and the leading
of the inward witness of the Holy
Spirit. Reason will lead you to what
“looks” best, “sounds” best, or is
“logical”. But reason cannot, and
will not fulfill the desires of your
heart. Desperation for a job or
anything will trigger your reasoning
mind to go after appearances.
It is OK to pursue what you be-
lieve is right as long as you remain
flexible and open to change. It is a
good idea to keep all avenues and
options open for God’s best in your
life.
Follow Your Heart
Following your heart, you may
find that something just doesn’t
“feel” right about taking this job.
There is no logical explanation why

 you should not, but your heart is
telling you something.
I personally observed someone
go through a very similar situation.
Two companies were pursuing this
individual and one company of-
fered a higher salary, more prestige,
and a bigger office! It looked good
and appealed to the ego. It wasn’t
reasonable to take the other offer,
but the first one just did not feel
right. Within a short time of em-
ployment at the second company,
raises and other benefits matched
the first companies offer and with
all the growth, there was a new of-
fice. The first company began lay-
ing off employees.
God puts desires into your heart.
This is what you follow, your heart
not your head. This is the inward
witness of the Holy Spirit gently
guiding you.
Your Intent
Once you have made a “want”
list, redefined it into principles, ask
yourself, “As I walk and live in these
principles, where do I see myself
in 1 year, then 5 years. Jot it down
quickly without analyzing it. Do it
again a week or two later without
looking at the old list. Include per-
sonal goals, spiritual goals, finan-
cial goals, relationship goals, and
health and fitness goals. By doing
so, you are setting your intent.

Having a love of animals, I once
studied a course on horse train-
ing. This theory of this training
turned out to be more of “people
training”. It turns out there wasn’t
much wrong with the horses, they
were only doing what the riders
were subconsciously telling them
to do. One illustration was par-
ticularly impressive to me because
I experienced it many times. The
trainer told the riders to only look
where they wanted to go because
the horse will go where you are
looking. Although I had experi-
enced this, it still sounded strange
but I tried an experiment. I rode
quietly and without body input or
movement, I averted my eyes to
another path and the horse turned.
I repeated this until I was certain
there were no other clues.
This is what goal setting does. By
writing your intent on paper, you
are turning where you look and set-
ting a place to go. Your spirit brings
it to pass and you don’t know how.

[with fixed purpose], and let your
gaze be straight before you.” Prov-

God will not only grant us our
desires, but if we have spiritual
flexibility, He will put his desires in
our heart and we will be one with
God’s plan and purpose. His plan
always succeeds! n
