Writing recount
First person
When you write in the first person, you put yourself inside the writing by describing how you
felt and what you were doing.
If you were writing about your first day at a new school, you might put:
As the door opened to my new classroom I felt sick to my stomach. I walked in and
saw thirty childrens faces just staring at me. I wanted to run home.past tense
Recount
When you are planning your recount, think about the important and interesting parts
of your experience.
Next you will need to think about when they happened, who else was involved, where you
were and why you felt like you felt like you did.
Now you can start to plan out you beginning, middle and end, deciding on the types of
connectives, past tense verbs and pronouns you are going to use.
Take a look at the following sample writing of a recount.
Visiting bali
Event 1 On the first three days, we spent the days swimming anfd surfing on Kuta
beach.
Event 2 The next destination was Singaraja, city of about 90 thousand people. We
visited Sekumpul waterfalles, the hihgest waterflls in Bali. It was so beautiful.
Event 3 The last destination was Ubud, a remerkable town in the middle in Bali. We saw
the art and the handicraft in the island. The fist stop was at Batubulan, a center of stone
sculture where we could watch young boy carving big blocks of lunch at Sukawati. I was
very satisfied in Bali then.
