sofa as this is not a suitable covering
for loose back cushions. Fabric
Nova provides plenty of soft resting space with big seat cushions that are filled with feathers and foam that keep the cushions in
shape and ensures long life. Side tables can be attached firmly to the end of the sofa for a functional, open-ended design. Loose back
cushions bring a laid-back touch to the sofa, and provides you with ultimate comfort.

I always suggest an extendable dining table for small-sized homes - especially when
the dining and living areas are combined. It gives you more living space during the
week, when the table is only used for the quick meals that are typical of big city life.
The table is easy to unfold and provides plenty of seating space for inviting friends
over for dinner.
Small lounges really benefit from a nest of tables. Placed next to the sofa this keeps the
centre space of the living room clear. The small tables are easily moved around when
table space is required, and they can be placed individually around the room.
I like to use glass or reflective materials, as they help to bounce light around the room.
The transparency of glass leaves an impression of endlessness and makes the room
seem bigger.

The architect company D3 in Tokyo and BoConcept have worked

closely together over the past year developing a model for
compact houses that holds enough living space and still allows for
a small garden on a plot area that is less than 115m2.
With two bedrooms, one bathroom, a combined livingl diningl kitchen area
and entrance hall, the house is big enough for a family. During this unique
collaboration, BoConcept has advised the architects regarding the choice of
furniture, lighting, wall and floor colours suitable for a modern, contemporary
style, where space is key.
As the price of land increases, the sizes of plots of land for sale are being reduced
in order for most people to be able to afford them. The small-sized land plots sets
limitations on the size of the house that is going to be built on the plot. So what do
you do? You build it high and narrow so you can fit in all the rooms and essentials
you need. This is what is called compact living.
Walls not wanted

The closed, external design of the building is made with respect for the Japanese
culture of privacy. Inside, the Japanese way of living has been combined with the
Scandinavian lifestyle, with an open plan livingl diningl kitchen area. On one side
of the room, large glass doors invite plenty of light into the room, while connecting
the indoor with the small courtyard outside. The open plan room leaves you with
a sense of space that is rare to find in small-sized homes. The modern staircase is
a fascinating feature that gives the room character.
When it came to decorating the interior and filling it with furniture, functionality
was key. The furniture had to complement the modern architectural style of the
house. But most importantly, compact living is about space management. Getting
the most out of the limited space available without cluttering too much into it.

The dining table easily extends for a dinner party of 8
The wall system in the living area provides ample storage space while still looking
sleek and tight. The coffee table works as a storage provider as well as a perfect
place to work and dine with tabletops that can be lifted into a higher position. In
the dining room, the dining table easily extends for dinner parties and folds back
when the party's over. The sideboard has been lifted from the floor and the wall
shelves are a small work of art that is functional too.
The kitchen area is defined with a counter made of steel for a very modern,
industrial look. White lacquered cabinets were mounted onto the wall behind the
counter. The steel combined with white makes the kitchen distinct from the rest
of the open plan room.
A dream place
The bedrooms are on the 2nd floor. A narrow band of windows by the ceiling
allows as much light into the room as possible without compromising the privacy
of the home. The simple, clean room has been turned into a uniquely elegant
bedroom with a low bed and night stands in black-stained oak and the beautiful
wall paper with silver that bounces light around the room. Notice the backlight
behind the panels that gives a dramatic atmosphere to the room.
The house will be used as a model house for one year. Customers can buy a similar
styled house that will be custom fit to their land plot.

stable base for the TV set eliminating unnecessary vibrations and therefore ensuring
a better sound quality. TVl Hi-Fi units are also designed with a very close eye to the

measurements of new DVD players, game consoles, CD's and DVD's to optimise
storage space. Alternatively, you might want to think about a unit with adjustable
shelving so you can place the shelves according to the size of your equipment. In many
units there are drawers with the specific purpose of storing CD's and DVD's. And
even if you want your DVD player hidden away, glass front panels ensure that your
remote control can still keep in touch with the machine. And finally but not least,

hiding away all the wires and cables have also been taken care of. So I would always
recommend investing in a piece of TVl Hi-Fi furniture to get maximum pleasure from
your TV set.

Now, even with the new, and much more elegant LCD flat screens, I still believe that
a TV should complement the room not dominate it. It should be difficult to locate the
TV set at first glance. To make everybody happy, I think the Basic XT system with
sliding door that can hide away the TV when not in use is ideal. On one side, you have
1. room enough for a 50" LCD screen and all the extra gadgets that go with it. When you
need a break from on-screen entertainment, slide the door to hide away the TV set and
reveal the other side with decorative belongings, magazines and books.

To get the most out of your investment, remember what your mother always said about
sitting too close to the TV. For the optimal viewing experience, you need to maintain

the right distance between your viewing area and your television screen.

• For 20-27" TVs, you should be able to watch comfortably from 2.5 to 5 feet away
(1 to 2 metres)
• For 32-37" TVs, you should sit back 6 to 8 feet from the screen itself.
(2 to 3 metres)
• For 42-46" TVs, you'll need 10 to 14 feet between you and the screen.
(3 to 4,5 metres)
• For 50" TVs, the best view is achieved from 12 to 16 feet away.
(3,5 to 5 metres)
Make sure that the TV is at a height where your eyes are level with the middle of the
screen. Now lean back, turn it on and enjoy the film!

First of all, I would always recommend that you organise

In the bedroom
Storage space is always in great demand for the bedroom. There are so many different
things to store. Clothing, shoes, bedding, books, TV and maybe even a small home
office. I always say that a wardrobe can never be big enough, with interior fittings
suited exactly to your needs. In small-sized bedrooms, I would recommend putting

the space beneath the bed to work. Under-bed drawers are ideal for hiding away
bedding and clothes.
Night stands with drawers are great for keeping the dust away, and chests of drawers
are the perfect storage provider in the bedroom. Deep drawers provide plenty of space,
but you can easily loose track of your smaller items that are much easier to find in slim
drawers. And on top of the chest, I would definitely go for the sculptural tree to hang
1. your jewellery. A perfect example of functionality combined with beauty.
Small storage
While the big wall systems are the ultimate clutter busters because they can be
customised exactly to your needs, I also like to think of alternative storage providers
that are smaller and less pricey, yet very decorative. Wall shelves are simple and easy
to look at, and they don't take up a lot of valuable floor place. You can play with
combining them in different ways to create a very streamlined expression. Or you can
hang them in spaces that are often redundant, over windows and doors, or on walls
below the staircase. Carefully organised magazines and books, picture frames and
sculptural vases will look great on the shelves.

Pieces of furniture with built-in storage are clever clutter control devices. Coffee

tables with hidden storage space underneath the tabletops are great to hide away the
essentials of the living room such as remote controls, newspapers and TV guides,
throws and tablemats. Or go for room dividers that are functional as well as pleasing
to the eye. And they don't block the light and vision entirely.
I can't get enough of boxes and baskets in different shapes and beautiful colours. They
help to keep the dust away from your things and can turn a boring shelving system
into a unique, eye-catching piece. Try lining several identical boxes up on a shelf for
a very effective look.

An idea comes to life

Anders Nørgaard was born in 1958 in
Sønderborg, Denmark. Graduated as Cand.
Arch from the Aarhus School of Architecture
in 1989. Now lives with his wife and 2
children in Aarhus.
The journey from idea to final product can be filled with many obstacles and challenges. Anders Nørgaard, Morten Georgsen and Jose Garcia
design furniture that not only looks fantastic, but is functional and affordable too. Here are the stories of how two pieces of furniture made their
way from the minds of our designers into the homes of many people around the world.

How lighting can change the atmosphere
of your room Set the mood

I always distinguish between three types of lighting
In my daily work as a stylist in our Glasgow store, I use when advising our customers. Mood, feature or

a feature light. Or pieces of light art on the wall created
by lighting that is hidden behind panels.
Lamp designs have really changed over the last

2. few years, and I particularly enjoy the big shades
on pendants and the sculptural pieces of light that
you can find in table and floor lamps. They give an
instant statement and a character to a room. The big
pendant shades can be used for so much more than the
dining area. Try grouping three pendants in different
materials in a corner of the living room or next to a big
lounging sofa for a very modern look. Or use pendants
above night stands on both sides of the bed. If you want

would be perfect. But if your dining space is in the kitchen, be practical and choose
glass or steel shades for easy cleaning.
1. Do the task
Floor and table lamps are still important pieces of light in our homes because they
can focus light where required whether it's for reading or working. Floor lamps are
easy to move around, and I would always recommend having at least one floor lamp in
the living room that can be placed behind the sofa or your favourite armchair. Table
lamps on night stands and desks have to be fairly high or with adjustable arms so
light can be directed to where you need it. But just because it's functional, it doesn't
have to be boring. Never have there been so many different, exciting and beautiful
pieces of light to choose from. Anything is possible, just turn the lights on and enjoy
the atmosphere.

Leathers and fabrics

Ensuring the highest quality in all of our products has always been a natural part of
