Question#01: Fig.1 shows a cylindrical fin with uniform cross section area A. The base is at
temperature of 100C0 and the end is insulated. The fin is exposed to an ambient
temperature of 20C0. 1D heat transfer is given by:
𝒅 𝒅𝑻
(𝐊𝐀 ) − 𝐡𝐏(𝐓 − 𝐓∞) = 𝟎
𝒅𝒙 𝒅𝒙
Where h is convective heat transfer coefficient, P is perimeter, K is thermal conductivity of
material, T∞ is ambient temperature, n2= (hP/KA) = 25m-2, and L=1m. Calculate the
temperature distribution along the fin using Reynolds Transport Theorem by discretizing
whole volume into five CVs.

Question#02: Fig.2 shows a large plate of thickness L=2cm with constant thermal
conductivity K=0.5 W/ (m.K) and uniform heat generation q=1000 kW/m3. The faces A and
B are at temperature of 100C0 and 200C0 respectively. Dimensions in y and z directions are
very large. Calculate steady state temperature distribution using Reynolds Transport
Theorem by discretizing whole volume into 5 CVs.
