Hi! I’m in class 5 at school. We’re doing a school

project about different festivals all over the world . Can
you tell us about a special Russian celebration?

On June 22, 1941, the Hitlerite invaders treacherously attacked
the Soviet Union. Their blow was of great strength. It was delivered
by 190 divisions — 5.5 million officers and men. The fascists were
confident that nothing could stand up against such a blow.
The Brest Fortress was the first to fight the Nazis. The whole
world knows about the heroic defence of the Brest Fortress. The
soldiers of a small garrison fought heroically from the 22nd of June
to the end of July.
The enemy wanted to capture the Soviet capital at all cost. The
German Nazis reached the outskirts of Moscow by late autumn in

Every year on the 9th of May people of our country celebrate
Victory Day. There is a minute’s silence all over the country at 7
