WORK METHOD STATEMENT FOR APPLICATION OF PRIME COAT

Scope:

This work shall consist of application of single coat of low viscosity liquid bituminous material to a porous wet mix
macadam granular surface.

Reference: Clause 502 of MORT&H Specification

Safety Requirements: As per Clause 21.2 of the project’s HSE manual.

1.  The surface to be primed shall be Site Engineer SH
carefully swept clean of dust and loose
particles and care shall be taken not to
disturb the interlock aggregate. The
bituminous primer shall not be applied on wet
surface or when weather is foggy, rainy or
during a dust storm.
 But the surface where the primer is
to be applied should be moist until the
completion of the priming activity.


 The primer distributor shall be self P&M SH
propelled, self heating bitumen pressure
sprayer.
 The distributor shall be calibrated for
the required rate of spread before bringing Lab tech QCE
for use.
 The primer shall be SS-1 grade Purchase QCE
emulsion conforming to IS:8887
 Quantity of primer shall be applied at Operator SE
the rate of 6 to9 kg per 10sqm Records shall be
 Tray test shall be performed to check QCE/Lab tech maintained in register

2. Rate of spread by tray method

Important Safety Precautions:

1. All trucks and tankers etc. shall be provided with reverse horns.
2. All exit points of the trucks /tippers shall be marked with safety cones and caution boards.
3. Flagman shall be provided at all exit points of the trucks /tippers.
4. The speed of vehicles plying in the work shall be restricted to 30kmph maximum.
5. Any local labour if working in the job shall be screened and trained.
6. Adequate area lighting in case of night work shall be ensured.
7. Proper PPEs viz. Shoes, Safety Jackets etc. shall be used.
