Nowadays, people focus too much on the numbers – the data, scientific findings and such.
However, what about the matters of life which is always overlooked? Philosophy affects many
aspects of life like in decision-making, education, and the path we want to take in life. Well,
there is more to life than numerical measurements. Philosophy lets me look into life in a different
perspective, where I could finally see everything clearly, and not only focusing on the facts and
the data. No other branch of science can describe my views on spirit, soul, and faith. Studying
philosophy helps me to have faith in a lot of things unless unproven. Having a connection
between my mind, body, and soul is understandable now, and without philosophy, it will not be
all possible. Metaphysics is the branch that is the most interesting to me since it talks about the
nature of existence. Various philosophers make a valid point in different aspects depending on
their chosen fields. Also, Aristotle made a really good point when he said to do everything in
moderation. Their opinions are well-explained and are based on facts.
Logic refers to correct thinking and before stating an argument, we must think about the
reasoning carefully. It is important to study logic as it will help in thinking clearly,
systematically, and critically. These are important in establishing relationships with people for
being broad-minded, sensible, reasonable, and practical. Logic isn’t always the same as what
makes sense or what is appealing. There are rules that appeal to our intuitions but some of them
require more effort to understand. Logic cares about the condition of our minds and the peace of
our hearts. Logic does not really teach us how to think, we can do that even before. What it
does it teaches us on how to be orderly, consistent, and careful on our thinking. It’s purpose,
also, is to avoid fallacies in arguments, so that all reasonable arguments must be based on the
facts or evidences, and how to recognize when the reasoning process breaks down.
Idea is anything that exists to mind. Every person has an idea in mind, but some do not
choose to express it. Although when expressing, one must use a clear and understandable
language. It is important to practice at organizing the thoughts when stating an idea. Writing
and speaking ideas is about proper construction and practice. It is essential and an asset for
human beings to create and understand the meaning of ideas. The difference between idea and
term is the representation of it. Idea is considered the intellectual representation or “image” of a
thing, while term is the verbal expression of an idea. When stating the term, comprehension and
extension must be considered. A good definition must use concrete words and not figurative
languages and must be defined. In addition, the definition must state the positive and must be
formal. This will make the argument stronger and is important in forming one. When a person’s
mind is so strong, ideas will just keep on coming to him/her. And the difficult thing about this
is the more the ideas are in mind, the harder it is to keep them united to form a constructive
argument.

 Proposition is a declarative sentence that can be true or not but not both. It should
always be accompanied by a well-constructed sentence. What is important in forming a sentence
is its grammatical form, however, in the proposition, the important thing is its meaning and the
thought. The classifications made by Aristotle being Universal and Particular (affirmative and
negative) made the formation of propositions easier to understand and easier to form.
Propositions can be converted into another form for a clearer comprehension. Judgement, on the
other hand, is the mental act in which a decision is made. In here, the proposition is either
affirmed or denied. It is considered as one of the material objects of logic or mental objects that
is important in making a sound argumentative. Alike or opposing concepts can either be related
or denied with the use of judgement. It is important to determine or decide on an idea and
concept to be able to construct supporting arguments about the certain topic. It is difficult if
what a person says is not anymore connected to the main idea. This will make the person’s
argument false.
Logical propositions can be a guide in arriving to a conclusion. When an idea is expressed
well through united arguments, with the help of the logical equivalences or eduction, then the
proposition can be passed to a judgement. If the expression of it is not enough, then there may
be something wrong in the construction or in the actual thoughts of the given ideas. Some of the
ideas may have been contradicting each other, or in contrary with one another. Therefore,
learning about how propositions are formed is very important.
All in all, studying about philosophy and logic may be underrated and underestimated by
others, but little do they know that it is essential to human life. Anything and everything we
do has an impact to the future decisions we make, and when we make a mistake in one, it can
still be corrected. Having a clear mind will aid a person to his/her decision making, and decision
making affects not only one aspect of life, but it is interconnected with everything and we just
do not see it.
Philosophy and logic have taught me a lot of things I have never imagined before. It has
reinforced on me that it is important to take actions on tasks with a clear and open mind, open
to all possibilities and solutions, and try to compare the concepts with each other. It is also
important to think about the thoughts carefully and not to dismiss it immediately without trying
to understand it first. Propositions and judgments, with the guidance of logical thinking, can
help to distinguish whether two or more ideas are biased or taking a side. It is important to make
a conclusion when a person knows the explanation of both sides, and must always be based on
facts, not just opinions since those may come from emotions. Philosophy is a branch of science,
after all.
