“KAHANDAAN SA SAKUNA’T PELIGRO, PARA SA TUNAY NA PAGBABAGO”

Safety is a responsibility of the entire community. We all know that being

prepared at all times is one of a good way for us to be safe in any disaster that might

happen to us. Nowadays, we experienced different kinds of disaster like earthquake,

typhoons, storm surge, landslide, terror attack and others. As a student we, should be

aware and be knowledgeable on how to handle or face the different kinds of disaster.

And as a living human, it is our task or responsibility to prepare ourselves and the

whole community as well, for any disaster so that we can avoid those negative things

that might happen.

Based on my experience, I always keep myself ready for whatever

circumstances that comes along my way. Being prepared does not only mean on

physical or material things. But likewise with your mental, social, emotional and

spiritual aspects as well. Just in case if we experienced disasters, we should never

feel down. We should always remember that all these things are challenges that we

need to cope up. As a citizen of our beloved country, the Philippines, it is our great

responsibility to take care not only with ourselves and the community but so as with

our environment. If we want to avoid those kinds of disaster, then we should start it in

ourself. Nowadays, a lot of people lacks of self-discipline, information and knowledge

in caring the Mother Earth, they just think for their own comfort and benefits. Some of

them are cutting trees and throwing their garbage anywhere without segregating them.

How could these terrible disasters be prevented if people are the one causing the

problem right now. Just like what happened in Manila when typhoon Ondoy strike the

area, you could witness how the people through televised coverage suffer the flood or

even a one-day rainfall in the area of Manila will cause flooding. Hence, there are few

trees and drainage are clogged because of the improper waste disposal, where in
people throw their garbage in the creek and canals. Could you still remember the

horrifying scenario that happen when Super typhoon Yolanda hits Tacloban City and

nearby provinces? Everyone was sadden upon witnessing the ruined Tacloban City,

a thousands of lives had vanished. Almost everything was gone especially those

buildings, houses and other properties. How did you manage to smile when everything

is gone in a glimpse of an eye? Even to ourselves we know that we are not disciplined

enough, because the reason why there’s a lot of typhoon visiting in our country today

is due to Global Warming which we human being, is the primary contributors. We

should be matured enough, that we do really need to care of our nature because if we

experienced in any disaster we all know that natures or our surrounding is our shoulder

to lean on. When it comes to an earthquake we don’t know when it occurs because it

is an unpredictable. It might happen anytime or any minute from now just like what

happen in Bohol. A lot of people didn’t expect that they could experience earthquake

that is why we really need to be prepared. As a student, we have conducted

earthquake drill in our school campus, we duck, cover and hold, it is a big help for us

to be prepared. What will you do if we will encounter like Super typhoon Yolanda

again? How are you going to prepare yourself? Once we are prepared we can take

advantage to have an early warnings and the temporary evacuation of people and

property from threatened locations. If we are not prepared the most terrible

consequences are deaths and injuries, damages in structure, the livelihood of the

whole community.

This July, we are celebrating National Disaster Resilience Month. With the

theme of “ Kahandaan sa sakuna’t peligro, para sa tunay na pagbabago.” It reminds

us to be prepared and always do care of our surroundings and environment in order

for us to have safety and rise up every time a disaster strike. What will you do if more
than one disaster happens at the same time? Are you ready to face and handle

everything? Always remind yourself that being prepared can be your sword at any

disaster you could meet .As a student, it is our task and responsibility to help the

program of the Government as advocates, Let us unite our strength in part of

knowledge for the porpuse of preparedness to any disaster. So let us unite as ONE.

By our simple action, we do save our nature and to have safety with the help of our

nature or surroundings. We are the youth, we can be a good model to their eyes, Let

us unite as ONE for our Mother Earth. We should always be ready and think about

our safety, all the time.
