Methodology

Research Design

The idea of the system development fits into the development and enhancement of the

manual system. This method used in the study is descriptive and developmental type of research.

It attempted to design and develop a Barangay Information System from Nancamaliran West

Urdaneta City.

Descriptive research is research used to “describe” a situation, subject, behaviour, or

phenomenon. It is used to answer questions of who, what, when, where, and how associated with

a particular research question or problem. Descriptive research is used to observe and describe a

research subject or problem without influencing or manipulating the variables in any way. The

data collected from descriptive research may be quantitative, qualitative or both.

According to Richey, Rita C., Developmental research, as opposed to simple instructional

development, has been defined as the systematic study of designing, developing, and evaluating

instructional programs, processes, and products that must meet criteria of internal consistency

and effectiveness. Developmental research is particularly important in the field of instructional

technology. The most common types of developmental research involve situations in which the

product-development process is analyzed and described, and the final product is evaluated. A

second type of developmental research focuses more on the impact of the product on the learner

or the organization. A third type of study is oriented toward a general analysis of design

development or evaluation processes as a whole or as components. A fundamental distinction

should be made between reports of actual developmental research (practice) and descriptions of
design and development procedural models (theory). Although it has frequently been

misunderstood, developmental research has contributed much to the growth of the field as a

whole, often serving as a basis for model construction and theorizing.

Population and Locale of the Study

This study is focused on the information system for the Barangay Nancamaliran West

Urdaneta City. Having parallel processes on the conduct of information system to the Barangay,

the researchers have selected Barangay Nancamaliran West to represented. Barangay Officials

and the residents of the barangay will be tapped as respondents of this study.

The Barangay Officials and the residents of the barangay from the Barangay

Nancamaliran West Urdaneta City will be utilized for the achievement of the cite objectives.

Thus, this study will involve five respondents from the barangay.

Data Instrumentation

To obtain the necessary data in this study the researchers used the following for

objectives.

For Objective Number 1, The researchers will use interview method to gather

information and data needed to determine the process of submitting blotter, and incident

reports to the barangay. Interview method was conducted to ensure the responses to

certain questions intended to obtain information about the problem.

For Objective Number 2, A survey questionnaire will utilized as the instrument to

gather data about functional and non-functional requirements of the system.

For Objective Number 3, the researchers will follow the Rapid Application

Development process to ensure the completion of the project.

A questionnaire was also utilized as the instrument for gathering data. This is

composed the profile of the officials and queries for data gathering. It is a set of questions

arranged in a sequence.

Rapid Application Development is a development model prioritizes rapid

prototyping and quick feedback over long drawn out development and testing cycles. With rapid

application development, developers can make multiple iterations and updates to a software

rapidly without needing to start a development schedule from scratch each time. In other words,

RAD is less talk, more action. And a lots of testing. The steps in Rapid Application Development

are first, define the requirements, second is prototype, third is receive feedback and the last is to

finalize software.

Data Analysis
The following involves the analyses that will be used to interpret the gathered data in order to

fulfill the specific objectives of the study:

For Objective No. 1, the researchers will use the system flowchart to represent the identified

process and policies involved in the submitting reports and records.

For Objective No. 2, the user requirements will be translated into Use-case diagrams to

visually represent them.

For Objective No. 3,
