Here is a List of Different Types of Electronic

Transistors
Electronic transistors are basically a semiconductor device that is used for amplifying
the signals as well as in switching circuits. Typically, these components can be
purchase online from reliable online stores. The electronic transistors are made of solid
material which contains three terminals such as collector C, base (B), and emitter for
connection with other components in the circuit.

It is essential to understand that some transistors also contains fourth terminal, which is
substrate (S). The transistors are classified into different types from the time of first
invention to prevent days, depending on either construction or operation. Different
types of common transistors available in the market are briefly discussed in this article.

Types of Transistors

Junction Transistors

It is generally called as bipolar junction transistor (BJT) and is classified in to NPN and
PNP transistors depending on the construction. These are current-controlled devices
unlike FET transistor. It can cause to flow large current from emitter to collector if small
amount of current flows through the base of a BJT transistor. It has low input
impedance. This type of transistors can be purchased in bulk quantities from reliable
electronic transistor wholesale distributor. It causes to flow large current through the
transistor.

NPN Transistor

It consists of two n-type semiconductor materials and they are separated by a thin layer
of p-type semiconductor. In this type of transistors, the majority of charges carried are
electrons and holes are the minority charge carriers. The current flow in the transistor is
formed through the base terminal due to the flowing of electrons from emitter to
collector.

PNP Transistor

It contains two p-type semiconductor materials and is precisely separated by a thin layer
of n-type semiconductor. It is essential to understand that the majority charge carriers in
this type of transistors are holes. Also, the minority charge carriers in this type of
transistors are electrons. It is ON when the base terminal is pulled to LOW with respect
to emitter.

FET (Field Effect Transistor)

It has three terminals, which are Gate (G), Drain (D), and Source(S). It is basically
classified into:

 Insulated MOSFET or Gate FET

 Junction Field Effect Transistors (JFET)

Fourth terminal called base or substrate is considered for the connections in the circuit.
It has control on the size and shape of a channel between source and drain which is
created by applied voltage.

JFET (Junction-Field Effect Transistor)

It is an earliest and simplest type of FET transistor. These transistors are typically used
as switches, amplifiers and resistors. Since it is a voltage controlled device, it does not
need any biasing current. The flow of electric current between source and drain of a
transistor is controlled through the voltage applied between gate and source. It is
available in both N-channel and P-Channel type.
