DAVID AND JONATHAN DRAMA WORKSHOP ‘Theme: Fellowship ROTATION: DAVID and JONATHAN: Bible Reference: I Samuel 18:1-4 ‘Objectives: Materials Stagecraft Bible Drama I Samuel 19:1-8 I Samuel 20 I Samuel 23:16-18 1 Samuel 9 1. The children will stage a skit about the story of David and Jonathan. 2. The children will discuss the theme of trust in the story of David and Jonathan. Gradesland2 ss Grandes 3, Band S Roll paper Ditto Construction paper ‘Markers ‘Scissors Masking tape or stickytack Large wood blocks Bible for teacher Bibles for everyone Storybook version (optional) “David and Jonathan” narrative (1st gr.) “David and Jonathan” play “David and Jonathan:” play (2nd gr.) ‘Lesson focus: “A true friend can be trusted.” Bible memory verse: “The Lord rewards every man for the things he does right and for his loyalty to God.” ‘I Samuel 26:23 9:00 9:10 9:20 DRAMA LESSON PLAN Set up materials and prepare to greet students. ‘Teachers and shepherds, please “meet at the eross” on the second floor to start the day in prayer. ‘Shepherds, greet arrivals and parents at the door and send your own children to class. Remind each child to sign in and put on a nametag. (Do you have your tag on?) ‘The teacher will start each child on the arrival activity while the shepherd greets. Arrival activity: Set up roll paper as a backdrop for the scene. Have the kids design details for a field in Israel: ‘grasses, plants, rocks, etc, Part of the set should include a large pile of “rocks” made of large wooden blocks. (David will hide behind this during the play.) Break down the set after the play is over so that the next class can add their own touch to the set design. 930 Offering Begin class on time with offerings and prayer. Older students may volunteer to read aloud. ‘The shepherd will start the lesson in prayer. Take the attendance sheet and ask the children to gather around you. Ask if everyone has signed in (and add those who did not). ‘Ask if anyone has a prayer request or praise to be lifted. Write notes next to the child’s name to help you remember. Hold the offering basket and ask if anyone has further offerings. As you pray for today’s class, pray for each child by name and include their requests. Close with the following prayer. Lord, bless these offerings and those who bring them. Use them and us to bring glory to you.
